Darkwood Arrives To Scare Linux Gamers

Luckily we were sent a key from the developers to give it a whirl
That's pretty cool that devs are starting to send you keys! Does that happen often? If so, it's a good sign for the site and Linux as a whole.

Linux is quickly becoming a first class strategy gaming platform, got a lot of the big titles already. Looking forward to this one.

Among The Sleep Is Now Playable On Linux

In other news, Eador: masters of the broken world was patched today still doesn't work. Guess developers need some time getting used to Linux (or they now think its not worth the hassle).

Interview With Aspyr Media About Civilization V & Linux Gaming

I wonder what the games in development are. Bioshock would e great but not getting my hopes up.

The poster is pretty cool, but makes me wonder if CD Projekt RED had a poster, what that would look like :P. Jokes aside though, the reaction Aspyr got probably dispelled any doubts they had about doing future ports, much like negative reactions might have put others off.

Grim Fandango Will Be Reaping Its Way Onto Linux!

Quoting: SXX]True, but I pretty sure that Tim Schafer it's kind of guy who make sure no important assets will lost. And even if they need to make something from scratch they'll able to because it's Sony pay for that.
Thing is, it wasn't down to him, the game was owned by LucasArts which he left many years ago - hence him saying about not owning it legally and having to negotiate with Disney to be able to make the game now.

Quoting: CheesenessWell, yes and no. I think there's an insinuation in that last video that DF are going to be trying to collaborate with the ResidualVM developers. If that ends up happening, then that's potentially really positive and hopefully will lead to making sure that ResidualVM supports this new version of the game from day zero, and that's a little exciting.
Let's say fair. Double Fine is unique studio, but I seriously doubt that they're going to swap their own proprietary engine to something else. I also doubt they'll going to use formats/features compatible with engine from 1998.
The problem often with these older games is that the source, art assets etc get lost or destroyed which leaves the devs' hands tied, having to pick apart at the game and do basically what the community does, so it would be logical for DF to reach out to the community and collaborate, otherwise they would end up doing what Square did with FF7 and just release the same game with an updated installer.

That is good news then! Just hope they do Discworld Noir :P - haven't been able to play that in years, I think it only works on Windows 2000/ME, or Plystation but I lost the box for that.

Deponia: The Complete Journey Released For Linux

Quoting: chrisqI love adventures, but that review really put me off the game. Can it all be really taken as criticism? I guess I'll check some videos before make up my mind about buying it or not.
I still stand behind what I said about the game, I love the genre and these are by far the best games I have played for a long, long time. The first part is perhaps not as good as the other two, but now that they're bundled as one it's not so much of an issue. I had never seen that review before and it pretty much says the opposite to every other review I have seen and having played the trilogy, I can safely say he misinterpreted pretty much everything the game was trying to get across. I would go into detail about every aspect he got wrong, but the overwhelmingly positive reviews speak for themselves.

Either way, you have some time to look up reviews since the game still doesn't run. I assume it's just a minor issue that will be solved quickly, but If it takes any longer I guess I'll write another article about that.

Grim Fandango Will Be Reaping Its Way Onto Linux!

YES! This is one of the few classics I've put off playing, so looking forward to this :)

Feel bad for the ResidualVM guys though, this kind of renders their work pretty pointless since this is the only game they've got working. That leaves them Monkey Island 4 (meh) and a few others which don't use a 2d engine like Discworld Noir. Hopefully means they'll focus on those though instead of abandon work on the project.

I emailed Double Fine shortly after Disney bought up LucasFilm/LucasArts to ask what was happening with the old games considering Disney couldn't care less about them and asked whether or not they would try and buy the rights for the old LucasArts games and they said they were "working on it". The release of Grim Fandango kind of suggests they succeeded (I think?), which might mean Double Fine sequels to Day of the Tentacle and Monkey Island (I hope). Just pray that they don't give any of these games the "Broken Age treatment" and butcher the genre so it appeals more to the iPad generation.

Deponia: The Complete Journey Released For Linux

Quoting: SpeedsterSegata Sunshiro, speaking of notable adventure games in the last decade, have you played Book of Unwritten Tales? Native build has been available on Steam for a while, and I loved it. Really looking forward to the sequel, which will be releasing with Linux support.
Yes, they're on my wishlist but holding off for a while. Still have the Dark Eye games and a couple of other adventure games to play. But your recommendation will move it up the list for sure!

Just finished Broken Age, which was the biggest disappointment I've had in a game for a long time and Journey of a Roach was pretty dire (though more of a puzzle game than adventure). I still think Deponia is the closest thing I have played so far to the games I loved growing up. It's really good to see the genre being brought back from the dead though, that Guybrush-shaped void in me is slowly being filled.
