Deep Silver & Techland are not supporting Dead Island Definitive Edition on Linux, at all
15 Jun 2016 at 5:40 pm UTC

Techland is only developer and all rights to Dead Island titles have publisher DeepSilver. Im asking few times Techland, and they still telling me that - ask DeepSilver because they can't too much and all things is in deepsilver decision.

At latest, Techland now (for future games) is self publisher :)

Two Worlds Epic Edition openworld action RPG now on Linux, uses Wine

I trying it in open beta and open beta perform bad... but after Reality Pump developers change WINE stable to WINE experimantal with CSMT it work well for me with AMD GPU and fglrx driver.

According to Deep Silver the new editions of Dead Island are not coming to Linux

We should ask directly Techland (main developer). They released Dead Island for Linux sometime ago and when they preparing it, Deep Silver claimed that does not know anything about the release for Linux, and a few days later it appeared thanks to two students working at Techland.

Im asked directly Techland but they not response, I think because in Poland is now loong week (celebration on Thursday and a lot of free Friday, which gives people four days off. So rather for the whole Techland is free.)

Knights and Merchants strategy game to return to Linux using Wine, now in beta
12 Mar 2016 at 5:34 pm UTC

Very good game. Nice to have it on Steam for Linux even bundled with WINE. Still this is best choice, because we can't get native now, old native is lose, droped source so we cant get new native, because developer not have money for this, and other resources and I think profit from sale, not back all porting cost. So good choice with WINE port.

Quoting: gbudnyI want to remind you that Topware Interactive made the same mistake with Gorky 17 for Linux/Mac. Those games were ported to Linux/Mac many years ago, but Topware Interactive prefer to publish games for Windows because they desperately need money. Perhaps, this is one the reasons why they don't want negotiate with companies like LGP, Runesoft, and Hyperion Entertainment.

I want to point out that Runesoft sells the native Mac version of KAM in the Mac App Store:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/knights-merchants-shattered/id595411919?mt=12 [External Link]

How will it make a loss if the price of this game isn't so high for the Mac users?
Yes, and not. With Gorky 17 and other things, TopWare negotiate with Hyperion but still case is not unresolved. Even If they get game binary for Gorky 17 (Odium), they can't update it easy, because they not have source code. So they need also source, and this is probably lose. So game not update to the same version as Windows, and without integrates with steam... nice. So you chose what you want? Do you want have non native WINE port on steam, easy to install even on SteamOS, only install and play? Or maybe you want have nothing? Many players want it, even as WINE wrapper.

Why you thinking, that TopWare not want negotiate with it? So, you talking about LGP? So, LGP is quite dead, so they can't negotiate with LGP... They only can with Runesoft or Hyperion and they talking sometimes ago with hyperion... So?
I think you not know about history this company, right?

Old ports are also burdened with a number of licensing problems. Eg. Some games have been licensed only DISTRIBUTION own, so a company can not resell them, or share TopWare make it on Steam.
Other issues, often the contracts are concluded in time and their duration has expired long ago.
Sometimes the subject was the main developer who passed later transformation and is no longer a disposition of rights eg. A version for Linux. It must be taken consider these, especially since a lot of games from TopWare arose in Poland from Reality Pump, where the law is very strict and complicated. Keep that in mind.

What game would you most like to see on Linux this year?

Dying Light patch released

Quoting: CommanderThey care so much that they put one OpenGL developer to port this game to OpenGL in 6 months from release and when released not working on AMD cpu's at all. Then releasing patches that mostly makes the game crash on launch, textures issues, and not speaking about performance issues where my AMD 9590 @ 5.1Ghz, 16GB RAM, and MSI 970 cannot run this above 20FPS after Enhanced edition. It was the same before the "OpenGL performance enhancements they did" where i had 80+ FPS during tutorial then dropped down to 12-20FPS when i went outside in the game.

And the support is not only bad on Linux, just check what they did when they enabled VAC and banned people for using mods no statement at all from the company, Valve had to put a thread in their steam forums to explain what happend and what they will do and how VAC will work with this game.

What about having toggles for blur that don't work, or chromatic abbreviation that just makes people sick playing the game.

If a company cannot create a port that works at least somewhat to their "system spec" that they post on steam, they could just leave someone like Feral to port it or just don't port it at all. This was the only game I ever payed season pass for and got burnt by it bad. Tried to get a refund but Steam refuses.

Just because we got low market share doesn't mean we should accept flying crap that get tossed on us. Or would you buy a Batman Dark Knight game with those issues that Windows port had too or Gary's mod, or what about Rust?

Wanna release a crappy game? Release it with the word "EXPERIMENTAL/May kill your family puppy because of no Q/A" warning, then atleast people will know what to expect. Right now i'm just waiting for Wine get support for later d3d versions maybe I will be able to play this game through wine with better performance.
I do not know what the problem is. You write that game after the release did not work on AMD? So, note that dota 2 from Valve also did not work on AMD - repaired a few days later. What is interesting in future patches again it's spoiled. Someone was crying and wailing? No. Dying Light is not a game of perfect, no mistakes on both Windows and Linux, but the developers are trying to fix.
Just like in other games. There is no game without errors.

See that all the errors that appear in the Dying Light have been improved, some other slower faster, but always repaired.
I remember there was a strange bug with missing faces NPC and ambient glow, despite the great difficulties trying to fix it, and this despite the fact that the defect lay in AMD drivers. Other developers like to do? They had submitted that it was not their fault only AMD and their grievances. However, they worked and were looking for solutions until they found.
Is that no one sees?

The issue of Vac is not the fault of the developer. Many games use it, and somehow nobody laments. Players themselves asked for his impelement because in the multiplayer there were many cheats.

You write that they should give away game to the Feral?
What if they work out cheaper to create port alone, by these two workers?
What if they could not, and so give away sources Feral or Aspyr? There are countries where the law is very complex, where the company is listed on the stock exchange, and the shareholders do not accept such actions. You can not throw everybody and everything into one bag.
PS. Not Sure if you know, but both Feral and Aspyr not make native games ... make like Virtual Programming ... Did you know?

Another thing on my second Linux PC meets the minimum requirements of the game and still play at medium detail no problem with FPS above 30FPS.

Even today, when the alleged game is not working, I start it and play. So what's the problem? Because today there is no problem, and developer Techland poured wrongly slop.

So for me Dying Light working fine, maybe should work even better but still is fine ( still better than most linux games).

I think that a big injustice meets the developer and the opinions are issued too quickly.

That's Techland's fault and shows they care very little about Linux support. It's also their fault for not focusing on cross-platform development.

Hopefully for their upcoming games they will make the switch to Vulkan and other cross-platform software and APIs.
Techland cant hire more Linux developer, because Linux market is too small and sale is low. So they can't get profit to make Linux version better important. They only experimenting with Linux gaming market.

We should be happy with what we have. Otherwise we would not have anything, because we generate still too small profit for big games. This profit in many times is good for small games - they can hire one developers and make linux port. Big games are more expensive and require resources.

So what you better want? Have Linux native port with sometimes issues or not have this games?

If in Techland on OpenGL engine and Linux port working only two young developers, they also have other task in Techland (not only Linux, Linux is only at Free time). Also they currently are studying at university, so we should not be surprised that sometimes there are problems.

The Talos Principle getting a Linux build using Vulkan in a few days

For now The Talos Principle on Vulkan is only wrapped... Nothing interested in performance state.
