@Mar2ck:
I reckoned that it'd be a good chip for LLMs, but it seems I clearly underestimated the demand for it. And for that use-case it is of course cheaper than a couple 3090s.
I know what the Strix is capable of, but I am surprised to see framework of all companies to offer such a machine with it.
That's really the crux of it. This chip has way more memory bandwidth then anything you'll find in the consumer desktop space, and bandwidth is the biggest limiting factor for LLM AI model performance. AI hobbyists have been stuck between a rock and a hard place until now with GPU VRAM having fast bandwith but low capacity and typical CPU RAM having high capacity but slow bandwidth, a lot of people have resorted to buying multiple used 3090s or multiple ancient workstation GPUs to get that large amount of high-bandwith memory for cheap. This is a much more practical, energy efficient and cheaper alternative to that so I'm not surprised it's selling well. Thanks for the info!
I can appreciate it looks weird for Framework fans who don't know what AI MAX/Strix Halo is and just see that it has soldered RAM but this isn't competing with standard desktops, it's in the same category as Mac Studio and Nvidia Digits. From that perspective, Framework are taking something that has only been avaliable in Laptops and Mini-PCs until now and making it avaliable as standard ITX with standard PCIe, M.2, etc.

Good to know that it doesn't seem to be a dead end for framework.

According to Framework on Twitter: "The 128GB Framework Desktop config is by far our top-selling product from yesterday’s launch."Interesting. I'd like to know why people prefer it over something else.

I really do not understand who the desktop machine is for. It seems to be the antithesis to their laptops with less modularity and repairability than other machines. An ordinary PC beats it in not only in these but also in price and speed (maybe with the sole exception of how fast you can access the RAM). A mini-PC is smaller and still offers better modularity.
Now I might not be the target audience, but I honestly cannot see who is. Especially at such a ridiculously high price: Their biggest model (paired with an okay SSD and the bare minimum for all other options) costs almost 2.700€. For that kind of money you can get a really good PC that outclasses this machine by quite a bit.
I hope this endeavour doesn't cost them too much, as I really like what the company has done so far... :neutral:

What a dishonest way to display data. One axis of the chart isn't numbered, the other shows that we are only looking at data from a very short time period. There is no comment on what the graph actually shows or how the data was acquired. It also fails to explain the equally large ups and downs before and after the Linux removal. That chart should always be dismissed, no matter if the data it shows is true.

Sooner or later they might either make Denuvo work on Linux or render the games unusable without Windows.

Quoting: EhvisDenuvo only supports Windows though.I am still using Windows and Linux in parallel until I am getting a new computer next year. And I don't want to give people that slap unnecessary DRM onto everything my money. :neutral:

Quoting: ThatSpoonyBardThe GameSir Tarantula Pro might be up your alley. The dpad is terrible for fighting games, but the controller is pretty good in all other ways.Holy cow, that is not a cheap controller! :shock: It has got some nice features, but that is a lot of money.

I'll still be getting one of these Horipads, because I really want the Steam Input customization with gyro support.

The Steam Deck can be held quite comfortably, but that is because it is a pretty wide device. The moment you take away the middle part, you'd be holding it differently. Your hands are much closer together, so that you'd have to change the angle of the grips to adjust for that. Of course that now also means that the buttons and trackpads might have to get rearranged. For the pads a slight change in angle might be a good idea. All in all designers have to take a lot into account regarding proper ergonomics, I recon.

Quoting: Mountain ManIt's not quite that simple, I'm afraid.Quoting: RavenWingsLooks alright, but its time for Valve to release the Deck-controls as a standalone-controller. Everything else just feels backwards at this point.Take the Steam Deck, remove the display, stick the remaining halves together, and there you go, the Steam Controller 2. It would literally be that simple.

Vampire Hunters turns Vampire Survivors into an FPS where you stack 14 weapons together

Hmmm... weapon stacking, you say? And Vampire Survivors? I might have to get that game sooner or later.
Not that I currently have the time. Or an empty backlog of games. But it might be interesting. Well, holidays are on the horizon... :grin:
