GDC sounds like it will be fun this year with AMD, NVIDIA, Khronos, Unity & Croteam all talking Vulkan

Quoting: lijuMight be a silly question, but can any of You advice what is the reason for dev now to study and learn directx12 instead of focusing on Vulkan? What benefit could there be to choose dx12 over Vulkan nowadays? Any super support from ms? Incentive? Is it that vulkan is available on windows, but not x1? I would think having limited manpower resources its always better to go 100% into Vulkan to reach easily more devices/ bigger market. Am I wrong here?
I have no experience in developing games, or using vulkan and DX*. This is PURE spekulation from my side.
But I think it all comes downs to, dx* has been used for a while and its somewhat of an industri standard. Applying a new API takes time, users have to learn it and know they way around.
DX* is something that has been used for a while and meny devs use and know there way around it.

I think, back in the days OpenGL was harder to use, it did also lack featuers that dx* hade, this made dx* the standard. Also Microsoft was probably putting alot of money behinde it.

And now its more of a market standard, and it takes time and money to switch. I think or believe vulkan is the better option just because its crossplatform. This would hopefully give more games to linux aswell.

And if you think Im wrong or know Im wrong please correct me.

EDIT: Think I didnt got the question right, but I cant remove the commetn xd.

gaaah!!! I want to play now! NOW!!
Well to be a bit more serious about it. Been waiting for this one for very long, so glad its finaly here :D.

But I guess we can expect the game to be playble on Linux, until all Cheetah's have left the building and the last person there is the janitor.
And he wont press that Go button that makes the game run on linux in a sec, until he's done with his coffe and are done with the last rounds.

Life is unfair, imagen having those powers :P

Linux market-share on Steam dropped 0.08% in December 2016

Hmm... I dont like the steam survey, but as it said in the artikle.
all the other distributions gained +82 together, meaning their growth together outpaced Ubuntu-based.

But I also got the survey more often in windows then in Linux, I do think valve are tracking there users hardware and OS even if you decide to ignor the survey.

I dont really care if Linux is the biggest OS,
I just want people to know there is a free perfectly working OS alternativ that even gives you alot more
freedom compair to the other os's out there.
Also as long as we get good games to play, and the devs behinde big and small titles see Linux as a system they want to support, Im happy.

This might sound dumb, and very off topic.
For some reason I feel more productiv in Linux then I ever was in Windows, I dont know if its the freedom and the way you can accses stuff more easily or if it is the layout.

Windows can stay on the top if they want, mac can be bigger I dont care, I already know what I prefer and Im happy here :).

Sry but arent valve suppos to know this?
This is good news, but it seems like valve shouldnt really need to ask this, they should know.

Finaly some love to the Linux version!
Under linux this game runs insanly bad, it can freeze in the menu, also in the loading screen.
And its insanly slow to respond in the menu.
Once you manage to get in to the game, cause dont expect to be in a server after the 10th attempt to join.
Well once your in the game runs well, but the linux client also seems to be missing alooot of texters and they all seem to be low ress, setting the game settings to high doesnt seem to do mutch at all.

Linux overall market-share percentage falls on Steam in October
2 Nov 2016 at 8:09 pm UTC

I changed my destro from Arch to Manjaro, and I finlay got a survey from steam.
Also if they dont count in Steam os in the survey, why would they count other unsupported destros like fedor, arch, manjaro and debian and os on.

Quoting: orochikyoNow, what if Libre Office, firefox and many other software can be distributed and updated throw Steam on Linux?, wow, that could be more practical even than synaptic. Making Linux easier for users is assuring new linux gamers in the future.
I think this is what snapp packages are aiming for, this is a bit off topic but check it out. Its in a very very early stage at the moment, but the goal is to make it available for all linux destros and it should be something like arch AUR.

Looks like VR support for Linux will be shown off at SteamDevDays this week, about time

Quoting: MaCroX95I think that we would need a few totally exclusive titles, this is what would really help to bring few gamers to linux at least to dual boot... But developers can't afford to produce a great linux exclusive that majority of people won't even buy and play in their opinion... and if people buy Xbox one and PS4 for few exclusives I'm 100% sure that they would install linux for few exclusives as well :)
Valve could probably afford it. With there money making client ^^.
