@lod - that was a fun watch, thanks for the entertainment - as a programmer I know that mans pain, I've disected 10,000 files of procedural code to convert a application in a service for a new UX, the most brilliant and spaghetti part was when I had to code a custom blow-fish decryption module to interface with the existing system to authenticate logins, what a nightmare.

It might be cool to have a uhm place where it displays UTC time like say in the website sidebar so we know when things are going to happen. I google for UTC time every time these come up and I pretty much miss 90% of the streams because of confusion, or being busy, but mainly confusion.

Switched to Red Camp AMDGPU - RX480.

It runs most games well @ 1080p - about 300 FPS in CS:S and CS:GO each (Though theres some weird anti aliasing or filtering slow down I had to turn down low.)

I'm curious how much juice they can pull out of their AMD Falcon SoC APU. I guess at 440p you wouldn't even need anti aliasing @ 1080p, I sortof honestly feel like a handheld would do better at 720p at this size to conserve GPU and maximize framerate.

This will be a interesting watch, I consider AMD to be becoming a increasingly dangerous contender to Nvidia, especially in the Linux scene.

ARK: Survival Evolved gains a paid DLC while still being in Early Access, reviews are destroying it

They put the cart before the horse huh? We see how well that turned out.

ARK is the only game in my steam library that I can't launch on my RX 480 with AMDGPU. Is there anyone in red camp that knows what the fix is? I'm not dying to play but I would like to know if it'll launch or not.

I feel the need to point out that what "is and is not rude" is a very culturally dependent thing, so bear in mind that the companies and even we ourselves are from a diverse group of cultures, for fsck's sake we barely even acknowledge that we all have different cuss words, greetings and goodbyes.

In ancient times it was rude to not greet passers by on the road and have a ceremonial lunch, over in england if you engage someone taking away their public privacy it could be considered rude, over in china if you take too much of a first serving on dinner it's rude, in america chewing with your mouth open is rude, so many different expectations and perceptions.

Anyways, if we all can just put some gravy on our differences and appreciate the vast spectrum we all represent that would be great.

So back to the context - it may or may not be rude in our country, but what's important is if it is rude where they're from and if the intention was ill. The only person who knows for sure is the rep.

I say good on them for communicating with our crazy asses.

Quoting: tamcculloughI think more blame needs to be leveled/aimed/heaped on Valve. Just what exactly have their intentions been with the whole Steam OS thing? If they truly wanted it to overthrow windows and consoles in the future, why put so little effort into marketing it and promoting it? It's not truly worth the effort for developers. Which honestly pisses me off.

Hold on there little man, "Steam OS ... overthrow windows" - dafuq.

"why put so little effort into marketing it and promoting it?"

A: Maybe it's not time for the big push yet?
A: Maybe they don't want to ruin the opportunity in people's minds about Steam Machines so they're charging up the game library before they do a Falcon Punch.
A: Maybe success is gradual and not instant when it comes to absorbing enemy territory?

"[SteamOS/Linux] It's not truly worth the effort for developers."

What? What kind of BS is that. Linux is developer heaven, and Vulkan is Rome, Unity 3D Linux just got mainlined in their source tree, Linux is the most prestigious development platform right now, the CLI is powerful and you can target every major platform when developing on Linux.

"Which honestly pisses me off."

Take a chill pill mate, lower your expectations in terms of how soon SteamOS will dominate, patience.

I actually think it was nice of them to dignify Liam with even a basic communication after having no previous communication.

Liams email did a couple things

Quote1 ) It reintroduced SteamOS/Linux into their thoughts

2 ) It raised SteamOS & Linux' importance as user(s) reminded them "Hey? We're Important! Remember Us."

3 ) SteamOS & Linux has the high-ground because they know their past communications have their reputation committed to SteamOS even if they're having difficulty delivering.

4 ) They fear making SteamOS/Linux & gamers mad. (Just look at the clusterfsck storm going on in ARK, and remember the siht storm Planetary Annihilation caused).

5 ) They were forced to communicate that their marketing has nothing to announce at this time and they are concerned about miscommunicating information.

Even though it's not the answer we want "at this time" the important thing is it got the gears and cogs moving in their minds and I'm sure internally they want to fulfill good on their original vision and goals to launch on SteamOS.

Maybe they know how rowdy the Linux community can get and they don't want the hate.

Successive reminders with time may bear success - imagine the Linux Community messaging them on twitter ever 2 weeks or 1 month to remind them of their commitment.

At the end of the day:
The Squeeky Wheel Gets the Oil. So go out there and make a ruckus you Linux Folk.

I'm popping in to hijack this thread and say the AMD RX 480 is pretty fucking sweet. Arch has a repo where the latest GIT versions are built, CS:GO runs at 300 FPS, Bioshock Infinite 90-120 FPS @ 1080p + 120hz.

Wine Apps run better and are more stable.

HDMI state restores on TV/Monitor power on/off. TTY switching is smooth, switching between games and Gnome Shell activities is smooth. Game anti-aliasing looks a little choppy but I'm assuming that's being worked on as its in all games.

All in all I think now is a pretty decent time to switch to redcamp if you value the open driver over that % of performance juice (Although I expect AMDGPU to continue to improve.)

[mesa-git]
Server = http://pkgbuild.com/~lcarlier/$repo/$arch
SigLevel = Never

(Photoshop on WINE seems to always run better on open drivers I dunno why)

(I did have to tell GDM to use xorg instead of wayland in /etc/gdm/custom.conf to get HDMI-A-0 to display, I guess the prefered output is DisplayPort)

(I guess I should say something about this game here - hmm. It has a very StarCraft / WarCraft 2-3 feel to it - I love that it has at least a touch of that grit. Maybe it's me but even if I get a DRM free version I still prefer to own my games on Steam - I gladly exchange the headache of managing 300+ games with the convenience and autopilot of steam - here's the steam link if anyone wants it http://store.steampowered.com/app/262280/ )

The Witcher 3 was apparently never planned for Linux

Where I'm from bloody isn't a cuss word, if we could just drop the classist barrier intentionally created by the rich and poor to segregate people by their speech that would be great.

Hell, It's about fucking time.
