Looks like Darkest Dungeon may finally release for Linux next week
24 Mar 2016 at 6:17 pm UTC

I have to admit that in the beginning I wasn't particularly thrilled about this game. But the longer I've been looking into this title the more interested I became. I really like the art style and the dark and gritty atmosphere now. So, if this gets released for Linux I’ll definitely consider picking the game up.

Microsoft's latest tactics show Gabe Newell of Valve was right to worry
2 Mar 2016 at 8:12 pm UTC

I haven’t checked exactly what this is all about and I don’t care really since I don’t use Windows and don’t own a Xbox console.

So, Microsoft is developing their own distribution software and store. What’s to worry about that? Just one more player in the market. They may tie some titles to their own distribution software and store and release them there exclusively. So? That has become the norm in the gaming industry when we talk about AAA titles and their developers for years already!

Arstechnica:
“Forcing console-like restrictions on a group that values freedom was never going to end well.”

Yeah, that really made me laugh-hard. There may be a hand full of PC gamers that still value freedom when it comes to gaming. But those are certainly not the people arstechnica had in mind when they said that. PC gamers, like all others, have long accepted that there is no real freedom anymore and that their games are tied to one platform or another.

Besides, except some indie titles, games are no longer developed for PC anymore but for consoles and only then ported to PC. Because consoles and all the mobile devices is where the money is these days.

Minecraft 1.9 released, the one with better combat
29 Feb 2016 at 8:58 pm UTC

I've already been looking forward for this update and am looking forward giving this new version a whirl.

I have to say though that I don't care much for the combat. While I always play in survival mode, I play Minecraft for gathering and crafting stuff; I love to do farming, make sure that I have enough supplies, build myself a "cozy cottage" (thanks to paulsoaresjr) and then, when I have settled the most basic stuff, explore the world of Minecraft. Minecraft is such a relaxing game to me and that's exactly why I like it so much.

By the way, v1.9 runs fine here with openjdk version "1.8.0_74".

Deponia Doomsday coming to Linux on March 1st
25 Feb 2016 at 9:01 pm UTC

While I absolutely love the art style of Daedalic's adventure games I simply can't get into their games (from all the Daedalic games I've tried I finished only one and I really had to force myself to finish it). Deponia I disliked right from the start and I really hate the main character, Rufus, which is also the reason why I quit the game after only a couple of hours.

Still I think Daedalic is doing a great job when it comes to adventure games and I know that they are very passionate about it. It's simply not my kind of humor/stories/games.

Shadwen, the new stealth game from Frozenbyte has a playable Linux demo
25 Feb 2016 at 8:38 pm UTC

So far I haven't managed to finish the level even once.
And yeah, the controls are driving me crazy as well. Definitely don't want to press down Ctrl or SHIFT all the time just to keep the game going.

I think I'll pass. The game looks good. But the controls are simply not my cup of tea.

Great move by Frozenbyte giving away a demo of the game though!

Battlestation: Harbinger is a fantastic roguelike space exploration game for SteamOS & Linux

The game looks quite interesting.
I hope they'll bring it to other shops such as GOG.com as well.

Humble Indie Bundle 16 launches, great selection with Sunless Sea now officially on Linux

Woot!, instant buy for me too.
Personally, I consider this the best bundle for a long time.
Worth it for Never Alone (which I'm really interested in!) and Door Kickers alone. Trine 3 is a great plus.

The other games I may not be interested in much. But still, great bundle nonetheless.

Insurgency: Sandstorm realistic FPS announced for SteamOS & Linux, will use Unreal Engine 4
24 Feb 2016 at 7:21 pm UTC

Quoting: 14Color me interested!
Me too, albeit I have to admit that my initial enthusiasm has worn off already and the game usually gets boring pretty quickly now. Also, the fact that Sandstorm aims for consoles makes me pretty sceptical.

But let's see if they will manage to really improve the game or if Sandstorm will merely be a graphical update.
