Got sucked into this for a few hours last night. Some of the optimisation and token count that people get on the leaderboard is unbelievable, I think I'm too poor at maths to get some of the probably more elegant formulaic-type solutions. But the good news is it's fun despite that. It's honestly just fun to experiment with random solutions and see what insane patterns of shape and colour you can get from tweaking variables and comparison operators.

There are also a ton of cool details, like at the game's bootup screen it shows your actual machine specs. When you type, the game plays a mechanical keystroke sound, and you can customise the type of switch it's supposed to sound like! Since it's made with Godot it takes full advantage of the UI controls and you can do a ton of cool customisation of panel sizes and window sizes too, even minimizing them! The UI is so cool and immersive.

It's a shame they went with a custom account leaderboard instead of using Steamwork's leaderboard functionality. It also doesn't have achievements. I'm not even sure it has Cloud Saves, maybe they weren't using GodotSteam for integration? Anyway, sometimes submitting to the leaderboard or browsing the pages fails and you have to retry loading a few times.

I've been playing the Native Linux release and it works on my system without issue. So cool!

EDIT: I'd love to see this one on GOG, with the account functionality stripped out if needed.

Discord CEO steps down, replaced with former Activision Blizzard CSO as they work towards being a public company

I prepared Telegram as a replacement long ago, then when they went down the shitter, I looked to Signal as my alternative.

I don't use Discord servers or voice/video chat. I actively avoid servers and voice/video chat on all platforms. The only thing I might miss is Screenshare, which it seems Signal already supports [External Link].

Farewell, Discord. I stopped enjoying the experience in 2018, now I have a good excuse to leave.

Some reviews are flaming them for this but I think it was the best outcome if they can no longer continue development. All the best to the developer, and thank you for this decision to open-source under the MIT license no less!

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered revealed, it's out now and Steam Deck Verified

Game is fairly heavy but I am running it at 4k "max" settings (FSR3 at Quality, and the the usual raytracing scam turned off). I'm getting 60fps no problem apart from at a handful of moments, mainly when exiting the sewer at the start of the game I dipped for 50fps for a good 30 seconds but it cleared up after that without a single dip.

The game could stand to be a bit more optimised, but I'm very pleased with it overall. GPU usage on my 7900XTX is around 85% with Mesa 25.0.3.

The final Baldur's Gate 3 patch is out now with cross-play, photo mode, new subclasses

I'd like to give this game a proper go. What's the recommended graphics API? Looking to play at max settings at 4k60 on my 7900XTX.

I didn't know Steve Langasek, and even though it was a while ago, it's still sad to hear of a loss like this. Rest in Peace.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered is Steam Deck Verified

But why you wanna play a PS5-level game on small, ps4-like gaming device?
This is kind of a big reason I stopped using my Steam Deck for the most part, and what became of my Switch before it.

Handheld gaming is a really cool novelty, but then the novelty wears off. Gaming on something that isn't my PC just... Isn't fun.

Playing with the Steam Deck docked is a nice way to share games on a bigger screen, but gaming on a couch simply isn't fun for me.

Discord wants developers to stick it inside their games with a new SDK

This does not appear to be well-received with gamers, Linux gamers or otherwise. I haven't heard of anyone enjoying Discord since 2019. Hopefully this doesn't take off.

This one is a big "no" from me, even if I loved Discord, I don't want it integrating or overlaying in my games. Discord Rich Presence is awful enough - no, Discord, I don't want to see what my friends are playing. I can see that on Steam, and if they aren't playing on Steam then I don't want to know.

So... How's TeamSpeak these days? I've been eyeing up moving to Signal (I avoid Discord servers like the plague) but I remember hearing TeamSpeak was getting a bit of a resurgence.

SteamOS 3.7.0 Preview brings the 'beginnings of support for non-Steam Deck handhelds'
15 Mar 2025 at 4:10 pm UTC

I can report that the desktop session is still X11. I wonder what's on their shortlist that makes them not touch that default yet.
Thanks, saved me switching to Preview. I think there are ways to work around it, but easy fixing of Overscan for TVs in the Plasma Desktop settings would be a pleasure (only available in the Wayland session). I want to watch YouTube on my TV with my Deck and keyboard/mouse, Firefox doesn't work properly in fullscreen in Game Mode last I tested (or with GameScope in general on my Desktop PC). Considering compromising on Ungoogled Chromium for this, but would be nice to use Firefox in Desktop Mode without overscan.

Steam Deck SteamOS 3.6.24 Beta gets a performance fix for No Rest for the Wicked
14 Mar 2025 at 5:27 pm UTC

Picked this up yesterday, just got past the tutorial. Seems more comfortable with a keyboard despite the recommendation to use a controller, although the controller layout is still very enjoyable (more than I can say for any other ARPG I've played, where a controller severely hinders the experience). Nice to see this improvement as I might give it a go on my Deck that I've recently dusted off for the first time in months for some emulated gaming.

The game definitely has optimisation issues, and doesn't let you disable upscaling from the menus. So at Best Quality FSR 2 running at 4k on my 7900XTX, it still chews up 80% GPU. However it does this regardless of scene, even on boot splashes, and GPU usage never changes. It is consistently 80% usage.

Any performance improvements are only a good thing from any side, so let's hope once the game gets more optimisation that these SteamOS-specific ones (Mesa-specific?) only add to that.
