MicroProse now publishing Dying Breed a retro RTS like Command & Conquer
6 Jul 2023 at 4:14 pm UTC

Wishlisted instantly. I reckon the first seconds of the trailer had me thinking someone just made a really cool mod for the original C&C. Then I saw more footage and, although it looks really really like a mod, it has new scenarios and other stuff that make it look like a different game. Really interested in this one, I still play at least once a year both C&C and Red Alert (got the remastered and play awesome on steam deck) so this one will definitely fit in my library.

Steam Deck now the global #1 top seller on Steam

Quoting: Purple Library Guy
Quoting: SolarwingI bought Steam Deck last year and I've no desire to buy Asus Rog Ally
Me neither. How has that thing been doing, anyway? We had a big stir about it but since then things have been quiet--are they selling?
Well, they are burning micro SD cards, and enjoying windows 11 + armoury crate combo so much in the meanwhile so... I guess it's doing.... well?

Also, in Europe the thing costs 800€ (base model) which is almost double the price of the 64gb model. They are not even in the same market. 400€ more (almost) for a console that's "slightly" more powerful and allows you to play multiplayer games that can't run in steam deck is a hard one to swallow for many people.

This is personal experience so take it with a pinch of salt, but among my group of around 30 friends, people regularly talk about steam deck (and they are not linux users) while they barely remember the ally at all.

Vampire Survivors is getting a co-op mode

This is something I didn't need. And I am worried, because I thought I had left my vampire survivors addiction behind. This summer I didn't want to open Vampire survivors again and again... But I'll have to. Really angry with poncle now. I wanted to have control over my free time again!

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 confirmed for a Steam release

I'm disappointed with this. For me it's just a quick cash-grab release with zero effort at all.
They could have used the GC version of MGS1 (The twin snakes) as a base. And then the 3DS version for snake eater with all the qol changes. Instead we just get a collection of roms with some visual novels slapped in to make us believe it's "good value".

Good for you if you like it, but not for me, I'm not gonna give Konami money for this lazy collection (although considering the quality of most collection nowadays, I have to say this one is not the worst I've seen).

Steam gets overhauled with new overlay, Steam Deck big stable update

Quoting: elmapul, if your game makes the player confused you probably need to tweak it so the players dont get confused anymore instead of relying on then using an note taking overlay to keep track of their progress
There are some games that have a huge amount of content and it's useful to have some notes, for example for what do you want to do first. I do that a lot in games like FFXIV, where I want to keep a track of what I'm missing here and there. Other times, I might just want to remember to come back some place later because I don't want to forget something.

The point I'm trying to make is that not because you can take notes to help you with the game it means the game is confusing or badly designed.

A fully transparent Steam Deck mod is on the way

After I watched a guide on how to replace the Deck frontplate from Ifixit I... decided that, cool as it may be, I don't need the translucent purple Steam Deck.
There's no way they're going to charge me less than 100€ to replace it given the amount of work and I am not going through all the process by myself given the difficulty.

ELDEN RING tops the Steam Deck most played for May 2023

Quoting: MohandevirLord of the Rings Online... On the Steam Deck... Why? Because I can. It's playable. The maps are a little on the small side, some parts are hard to read and you need to get used to the button mappings. No need of the touchscreen, if you don't want to. I wouldn't use it as a daily driver, but as a backup plan, it's better than I thought.
You sir just made me go and download LOTRO to play it again after... maybe 10 years. I need to create an account since my old one is probably lost, but knowing that it works on Steam Deck... I need to go back now. Thank you.

Nintendo blocked Dolphin emulator release on Steam
27 May 2023 at 9:51 pm UTC Likes: 3

Quoting: PenglingAbsolutely this. I used to be a big fan of Nintendo's, but they put me off of them after they took various series I'd formerly enjoyed in directions that I didn't like, moved over to having large of amounts of expensive pre-planned DLC for major releases, promoting adult-rated games in non-adult-rated games, moving from openly opt-in to sparsely-signposted opt-out telemetry, cutting basic features that were present for decades and then adding them back in via drip-feed free updates purely for social-media "buzz", and having loot-box mechanics in their promotional mobile games. It feels like they've been working hard to alienate long-time fans who liked them for *not* doing these things.
Yup, this is me. I went from having a collection of original games for every Nintendo console to date (all bought legally and, when possible, new) to not buying anything Nintendo related at all.
It's been years since I've last bought something from them and with how they are behaving lately, it seems some more years will pass for me to buy something from them again (if ever at all).
They are one of the worst (if not the worst) videogame companies ever.

Valve rolls out Proton 8.0 to further improve Steam Deck and Linux gaming

Age of Empires 2 DE is broken on this release. If you try to open it, first you'll see a crash report, then an Xbox login window will appear, then turn completely white and won't go away, effectively blocking and preventing you from playing (I was playing with experimental before and this didn't happen).

Only way to get around this is to go offline to open the game.
