Valve and Nividia partnership for GeForce now? That could be great!
GeForce now beta seems to be based on Windows instances... Always tought it could be a good matchup for both to be competitive in the cloud gaming market and it could permit Nvidia to get rid of it's foreseeable Windows licensing fee problems.
But I'm just an outside observer who's a GeForce now (Nvidia Shield) occasional user so... :)
I really hope that Nvidia will someday add Canadian servers though (Valve already has that)... being forced to connect to US servers is probably a reason why I have performance issues with GeForce Now.
P.S. I don't know what to think of this, but Nvidia is really proactive when it comes to DXVK and Vulkan debuging... Could it be related, somehow? Is there something brewing? :)

is will be offering a free subscription plan where you must buy your games (no freebies and limited to 1080p). Wouldn't be too far fetched to think that Valve will do something similar, but who knows...

Quoting: NeverthelessStadiaQuoting: michaWould love to have the choice of running games locally or through the cloud.... especially when they can use almost the same versions for Steam Cloud Gaming, native Linux on Steam and for Stadia. A Windows version using Vulkan is also not so very different from that.
If Valve servers all run Linux it would mean all games supported in their cloud service should run locally as well. Either with a native build or through SteamPlay/Proton - few exceptions aside. Cloud support would certainly be a great incentive for developers to support at least either one.
This all seems a very logical step to me! The question is: Will the streaming service cost extra, or will/can Valve use it as a bonus service to justify their 30% revenue?

It's never been in Valve's mentality to remove features. They always add new ones. I don't see why this would be different. Dropping the desktop experience would mean a major change of mentality/business model. It doesn't make sense.
P.S. The day Valve drops the desktop experience, it will be the same as when they dropped support for 32bit PCs... No one will care and Microsoft will have done the same long before. :)

"We've always been a little bit jealous of companies like Nintendo, When Miyamoto is sitting down and thinking about the next version of Zelda or Mario, he's thinking what is the controller going to look like, what sort of graphics and other capabilities. He can introduce new capabilities like motion input because he controls both of those things. And he can make the hardware look as good as possible because he's designing the software at the same time that's really going to take advantage of it. So that is something we've been jealous of, and that's something that you'll see us taking advantage of subsequently."
If that's true, Valve will want to control every part of the infrastructure.

Quoting: ArdjeIt could be the same like steamos and steammachines: Valve delivers the pieces, it's up to cloud providers to deliver the service. Not sure about this one considering that Steam Machines failed and this quote frome Gabe Newell:

If that's true, we might have just got our answer about "The future of SteamOS". This said, I hope that it will push more developpers to think twice before accepting Epic's exclusivity deals. With a streaming service, you may reach a much larger audience and the infrastructure required to run such a service will lay to rest the 30% cut arguments.
Just a guess, but it might be a part of the reasons why EA decided to come back to Steam...

The Linux port of Shadow of Mordor from Feral Interactive has gained a Vulkan Beta, a massive difference

Quoting: GuestFeral might have chosen Shadow of Mordor for any number of reasons - the underlying code could be an excellent test bed for something new they want to try out, or maybe they're preparing for something related, or perhaps it's a marketing exercise (look potential customers, we can do this), or could just be thumb twiddling. We don't know, and probably won't ever find out why this game over any other. Not that it matters. You are totally right... I'm just being too curious. ;)
Game runs good. Customers happy. That's what matters.

Quoting: Liam Dawe... Am I too far from the mark if I say that it might explain why Feral decided to add a Vulkan renderer to Shadow of Mordor over any other title?Quoting: MohandevirThere is just one thing that I don't understand... When Shadow of Mordor originaly launched on Linux it was common knowledge that there was a 40% performance hit vs Windows and whith these new benchmarks, 88fps (OpenGL) for Linux vs 233fps on Windows... It's a 60% hit. Any clue why is that? Can be a mixture of any number of things. I ran my tests on the most up to date Windows driver as well as the most up to date Linux driver for a fair comparison. NVIDIA optimise a huge amount in their Windows drivers. Not only that, but my GPU is vastly stronger to what the video linked has, which can also show up issues with heights that that their GPU simply couldn't hit.
