Quoting: EikeMostly because of the ootb SteamOS experience that looks shiny and custom tailored for a handheld vs Windows' desktop weirdness on a 7" screen (K+M required per some Aya Neo or GPD users comments). AMD FSR integration was named many times, better battery autonomy too, suspend resume feature, SteamOS' smaller footprint.Quoting: MohandevirAs for the other 1/4, most will dualboot and a small minority will replace SteamOS with Windows. I have even witnessed a Windows fanboy starting to change it's point of view and then having doubts about stripping SteamOS.Sounds good, thanks for telling.
Like I said, gut feeling from reactions I read/see, but it feels positive.
Valve seem to have really nailed it, this time.
Good job!
I'm surprised people are thinking about dual booting though.
Did they tell why they would want to keep a Linux partition when they are doing the work of installing Windows?

Not really on topic, but I wanted to share something...
There's absolutely nothing scientific to my method... It's more of a gut feeling, but being in a Steam Deck Facebook group with 39k members, I have the feeling, judging by the reactions on each posts, that around 3 out of 4 Steam Deck users will keep it on SteamOS and use Windows on their PC for what is not compatible.

Stadia continues the slow downward spiral

Games I bought on Stadia from Ubisoft are visible in my Uplay account. Who knows, they might get transfered to PC versions and then show up in GFN, if ever Stadia goes under?

Quoting: SapienTLGHonestly the more and more that happens with Google the more I just want to move away from anything that company does. Apart from the privacy concerns, they can't seem to commit to a project long enough to see it through. A real shame with Stadia seeing as it had the best tech in this area so far.Google seem to suffer from ADHD, as a whole. Just sad.

I just hope they will permit Stadia controllers to be paired via Bluetooth, when they decide to axe the service.
Unfortunately, I feel that Stadia just fell into the "vicious circle" that it had to avoid at all costs; Google are pushing users to leave the service, with that kind of news... Users then begin to clearly see the Google graveyard pointing the tip of it's nose and just that brings it nearer to make it a reality.
As for the games... I have most of them on Steam and always bought games at huge discount, so no big deal. It was fun while it lasted.

Witcher 3 and CP2077... I'm hoping for some nice Steam Deck surprises along the Next Gen versions releases.

We're living in a weird world with Sony's Shuhei Yoshida excited about a Linux handheld

It's the extra step to aknowledge the existence of the Steam Deck, support it and, by association, support Linux that amazes Liam. This is the angle that he wanted to highlight.
Got it right Liam? Because I share the same point of view.

Quoting: slaapliedjeYep! You are both right, but was Sony forced to support the Steam Deck? Couldn't they just release their builds for Windows and be gone with it? Then, if it works on the Steam Deck, consider it a nice to have?Quoting: Doc AngeloThat makes no sense to me. If the exclusitivity did work out, why are they making things less exclusive over time? This is not beside the point for me, and shouldn't be beside of anyone, because this is literally the topic. I honestly have no idea why you suddenly state that this is "besides the point".Exclusive games did work out great for them. Then they realized how much untapped revenue there is in PC gaming sales. Think about it this way; the PS4/PS5 are basically PC hardware shoved into odd looking (and loud) cases. The games use OpenGL (or an offshoot of it), so porting them to DirectX or Vulkan should be fairly straight forward, and since all the art exists already, there is fairly minimal amount of development time for opening up games to a whole new group of players. So once a PS# exclusive game's sales hit that curve where either 1) everyone has already bought it at full price that is going to. 2) there have been enough sales that people who are going to buy it have bought it on sale. So the revenue stream for those games are done. Boom, more sales instantly because the game now works on the PC, so anyone who is a Xbox/Nintendo/PC only gamer can also be a Sony customer! More Money!
Exclusive games never made much sense to me anyhow. Sure they made sense when the console itself made profit, but I'm betting for the price of the hardware in the PS5, that they are no longer making any profit on the hardware and only make profit on the games.

With the Lutris news about Origin, UPlay and Heroic integrations... It might just be a coincidence, but to me it seems all geared toward the Steam Deck release. Just my 2 cents.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI'm really not seeing signs of Windows shifting much as a target lately--no signs of a DX13 coming down the pipe, for instance.Just a tought of mine, but even if there was a "DX13" announcement, before it gained traction in games, the DXVK/VKD3D/Proton team would have a lot of time to catchup. Remember when DXVK was first created? They had to chase DX9 to DX12 compatibility... If it's just a potential DX13, the manpower would be a lot more focused, because not spread accross many different APIs... My two cents.

Quoting: EagleDeltaAnd it's the developer's decision, not Valve's.Quoting: rustybroomhandleOn GoG you can get games with no DRM.On Steam you get games, some with DRM, some without DRM.
On Steam you can get games with DRM.
On NFT platforms you get just the DRM.

Not really a factor, imo. And demanding games looks like crap on this Nvidia Shield grade hardware.
Edit:
The only advantage I can think of, that the Nintendo Switch has over the Steam Deck, is Nintendo's IP. I nearly bought one, because I wanted a portable device, but decided not too, considering the performances of the games I'm interrested in... Then came the Steam Deck that promises to be a lot more interresting, for that use case. On top of that, I don't need to buy my games again.

Quoting: rustybroomhandleSo, not much worst than a Nintendo Switch...Quoting: jpHow many minutes I can play on Steam Deck (especially via Proton)?7-8 hours on games that are not super demanding
Most likely it is another Valve fail.
Portal 2 supposedly 4 hours
I'm guessing heavier titles like Control or God of War will be less.
