AMD announce the Radeon RX 9060 XT and a big FSR 4 'Redstone' upgrade
21 May 2025 at 12:09 pm UTC

Games are requiring more and more VRAM, not less.
Because of 4k textures? Raytracing?
Looking forward to the first benchmarks. I can't believe it won't be a huge upgrade over my RX6600.

Edit: Ok sorry... Didn't got my 2nd coffee! 50$, between both model. Not 150$, like I wrongly calculated. Muuuch better. Yeah. The 8gb model just got less interresting.

Just a question... 8gb vram... If I play exclusively in 1080p, is it going to be enough?

Seriously, I have absolutely no interrest in 4k gaming.

Edit: 150$USD difference between the 16gb and 8gb versions... I seriously consider the 8gb model. Oups! 50$!

It should still be much more powerfull than my RX6600 which is still really capable and yep, the 8gb version should have been called the RX 9060.

Denuvo will lock you out of games on Linux, SteamOS, Steam Deck if you keep changing Proton versions

@Mountain_Man

This is a common complaint, but as far as I know, it has never been conclusively proven. It's mostly just anecdotal with people seeing bad performance and blaming Denuvo because "This other game without Denuvo works just fine!" which is hardly definitive.

While this is still anecdotal, I heard people complain specifically about performance gains from using versions without denuvo on specific games (be that pirated copies which were able to remove denuvo, or official patches that removed drm altogether). Though, it may also depend on specific game and how it handles data loading from disk?

I know the BS Denuvo is spreading, but the latest example that comes to my mind is Jedi Survivor. It was just a terrible stutter fest, totally unplayable, even on high end hardware, before they removed Denuvo.

It's the third game I personnally witness where there is a major performance/experience boost, when Denuvo is removed. They always hide this behind "other updates", but I've not seen such day an night difference, in other update contexts.

1+1=2

Edit: Wrote Jedi Fallen Order... Wrong game.

Proton 10 beta? Problems with previous versions?

Just launched it with the default proton (9.0.4?). Didn't witness anything wrong, but I didn't do an extensive test. Anything we should be aware of?

Going directly on my "Wait until Denuvo is removed list".

Anyway, it almost always add bugs and/or performance issues.

I pity the devs that get hired by these AAA studios, fully aware that they will get sacrificed on the "Quick Buck Altar".

Steam update for Desktop brings DLC fixes while Steam Deck gets startup and BIOS update fixes

That's what I discovered playing with it. Thing is, in this particular game, it's unusable... It turns on FSR only in Windowed mode and the resolution is nowhere near where it should.

Thanks for the quick answer!

I was about to start Shadow of Mordor, on my Steam Deck and went to activate SteamOS FSR, in the side panel menu... Gone. No more FSR option. NIS gone too. Is it a bug or was it intentionnaly removed?

1100$CAN, here. 689$CAN for the 512gb OLED Steam Deck and 819$CAN for the 1tb model.

I will stick with my LCD Steam Deck. If I had to make a move, I'd pick the 512gb OLED Steam Deck and swap drives with the 1tb I already have in my LCD.

All in all, I'll wait for the Steam Deck 2.
