Rocket League thoughts on Linux, initial port report, it’s also 25% off right now

it would seem there should be a way for the game to assign controllers for each player. since it uses multiplayer on the same screen. in consoles this is probably a bit easier since most consoles have an interface setup just for this. but on PC this isn't always the case.
thanks for the information though.

Quoting: mcphailYou could see if your mouse is listed on the blacklist database [External Link]. If it isn't there, add the vendor and product id to the generate_rules.py script and regenerate. Copy the udev rule to /etc/udev/rules.d/ and restart udev (or reboot) to see if it fixes things. If it does, consider sending a pull request so it can be added to the list.this works for the older style config for SDL1, which does remove the Roccat from the js0. but with SDL2, it's assigned by /by-ids rather than devices. which RL uses SDL2. and SDL2 always loads the mouse first even though I have udev rules that load the steam controller before the mouse.

Quoting: SchattenspiegelSee this [External Link] discussion, pls.I've tried assigning it to a specific js, but that option is no longer available since 2014 udev update. it's all dynamic now. even setting up my own rules for the steam controller to load before the Roccat loads doesn't seem to matter. in SDL2, the mouse seems to always be recognized first. thanks for the information though.
meaning: either unplug all other controller/joysticks/wheels before starting the game or try the approach given here [External Link]

I started to try and play this today, but saddly I'm having a few issues with how the game assigns the controls.
at the startup screen where it says press any button to start I can press my steam controller button and it goes to the title screen. which it shows the controller buttons next to the menu items showing that it detects the controller just fine.
But If i try to navigate with the steam controller there is absolutely no response. I can only use my mouse and keyboard to select options on the menu.
If I press the play/start button on the controller it assigns the steam controller to player 2.
If i try to play the tutorial with only 1 player I'm only able to use mouse and keyboard, there is absolutely no response from the steam controller.
is anyone else having this issue?
I think it could be my Roccat mouse, since I've notice in other games where the roccat is actually detected as a "controller" sometimes. which I think the game auto assigns my mouse as Player 1 and my Steam controller is considered an extra input. does anyone know a way to switch primary inputs for the game?
I may bring this up with the game devs to see as well.

it was kind of funny when it was released how it said "windows vista" for OS requirement for SteamOS/Linux. now the OS section is completely removed.

I agree with Xpander, it isn't much of an issue for me that they are making DLC before a released product. The level of content and overall design beats most current AAA titles easily, the fact they just keep on adding more content plus constant bug fixes makes me wonder if it will ever be "complete".
I agree with skinnyraf and think they should just release it and just continue the development as usual. Although this should have been done before the release of the DLC so that it wouldn't be such a debacle that it has been.
Although it did sadden me a little that they decided to develop for DX12 vise just going with Vulkan. Considering Vulkan will work on all platforms.
I do enjoy the content it has along with the Scorched Earth DLC. I'm surprised it has had this level of development. that fact I've now payed a price for a AAA game and actually gotten my monies worth so far.
on the visual side of things, no matter what settings I've used, I've always gotten visual artifacts when exiting water. these artifacts will linger on for the rest of the game and eventually get so bad I have to restart the game from time to time. The original map has areas where there was once water. you can tell by the VFX when walking on a sandy beach area next to the current water and get graphical VFX of being underwater. once I pass through these areas it will cause the Artifacts as well. This problem is with any and all maps, including the new one. maybe this is less of an issue with newer hardware?
I know the Unreal engine has been a bittersweet experience for Linux since UE went open source. But I think when Vulkan is fully implemented into the engine then this will help a lot with Linux going forward.

I've been playing this a bit, it plays really well on Linux. I was a big fan of the older theme park tycoon style games. parkitect has all the old things (from other theme park games) in place already but keep adding new types of functionality and more good things as they go forward.
the fact it has modding and the steam workshop already was the main reason I decided to buy it. it's an endless amount of fun.

as long as Linux keeps trending on marketshare like has the last couple of months it may not be that long before Linux is at least on par with OSX. honestly I'd just be happy to see Windows start to drop considerably and OSX/iOS and Linux/Android drive the future of business, industry and gaming. it's a pipedream, but one can dream :)
Master of Orion (the new one) officially released with Linux support

The interface is very well done, very fluid. There's a cutscene that is very well done for each type of planet you colonize on. the AI for the opponents seem about the same as the previous games, with a more likeness to Civ5. But technically all of the MoO games have followed the Civilization route with a lot of it's underlying aspects like AI and tech tree. With the exception of MoO3 which went way over the top with the tech tree IMHO.
Each race has very interesting characteristics, like the Silicoid that only live on minerals and don't need regular food. which allows them to live on much harsher planets that have very rich mineral composition (which allows for very high productivity).
You can customize your own race as well as customize the ships a bit, but not quite the same as MoO2. there is a minor bug with the game right now on this which seems to affect windows and mac as well. If you customize the loadout of weapons on a ship and apply an additional weapon of the same type that is already equipped it will cause the game to crash. the game allows you to apply multiple weapons in one slot.
to top it all off it has one of the best crew of actors voices. it's nothing short of awesome.
I've been playing this game since it came out when I seen it was available for Linux. it was a no brainer for me, since I've been a huge fan of the first 2 games. I still have my original MoO2 CD, and still played from time to time through wine.
I have Stellaris also, but play them both for different reasons. Each are great sci-fi 4x style strategy games, but with completely different approaches. I've played Galactic Civ 2 and 3 when I had a windows partition. but since I no longer do, the new Master of Orion fits the bill quite nicely. it runs really great so far. there are some odd bugs still though. but these seem to be gameplay bugs effecting windows as well.

Quoting: KohlyKohlHow does this compare to Stellarus?this is turn based but with real time combat for the battles. it's not the most engaging as far as real time combat goes. I don't remember the previous ones concentrating on that too much either. But you have the choice to do auto-combat for the battle and let the game do the battles. which I tend to do for most of the fights where I have a good or better chance to win. Only if it's a fair or balanced fight then I will take control then.
Quoting: sevenis the game good, content wise?If you've played the first 2 Master of Orion then this is basically a hybrid between 1 and 2 with a huge facelift.

looks like the depots are available for mac and linux with english, french, german, italian, japanese and portugese languages.
keep in mind, people playing on Windows have been complaining about performance, so this will most likely require a mid-high to high end system to run well.
