Quoting: x_wingHabemus one laptop: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpad-x1/X1-Carbon-Gen-8-/p/20U9CTO1WWENUS2/customize [External Link]?Was that in reply to my post about there being nothing in the Australian store? Or were you just commenting in general?
Microsoft Edge comes to Linux in October as a preview

More likely (though not by much!) is that Microsoft will buy something like Ubuntu, and then do a "commercial" version like Red Hat did way back in the day, whilst spinning-off a "community" version into a separate distro.

Quoting: pbI think it's just another step closer to Linux(kernel)-based Windows. They'll keep porting stuff so the future inevitable switch is easier.I doubt this will happen... Microsoft have invested an awful lot of time and money in the NT kernel.

Nothing on the Australian store... And I'm not holding my breath, seeing as none of the major manufacturers sell laptops with Linux-based operating systems pre-installed (the single exception being Dell, who only sell one particular "XPS" laptop, only via telephone orders and only on a case-by-case basis).
I'll stick to ASUS, who provide semi-official support for Linux-based operating systems here in Australia (not with pre-installed operating systems, though)...

Skullgirls developer Lab Zero lays off everyone who hadn't quit

Skullgirls was fantastic - and I'm not even a "fighting game" guy ("button masher" on those rare days when I do play them...)! But instead of making a sequel, they made some other game that was boring and unoriginal...

Quoting: MaximBThey had a great and very successful fighting game Skullgirls,This is the correct response.
But instead of creating a sequel they created a new game none had asked for...and failed.
So sad. :(

NVIDIA confirms $40 billion deal to buy Arm

Yes, Nvidia being secretive about their GPUs doesn't help the situation... But it is a very small cog in a very large machine.

Quoting: EhvisBulldust - there is plenty of hardware out there - including niche hardware - that is just as "secret" as Nvidia's GPUs... Yet many of those, dare I say the vast majority, work just as well as they do under Microsoft Windows-based operating systems.Quoting: x_wingNo it's not. It's a consequence of NVIDIA keeping secretsQuoting: EhvisYou'd think that Linux users, who have been on the receiving end of FUD, would be slightly more careful with what they say. Unfortunately not the first time this has been proven wrong. So Noveau poor performance is not Nvidia fault? Facts != FUD.

Quoting: RafiLinuxLuckily, we have the DRM-FREE version which is still good to play though it still has the broken issues with Big Band.Where'd you get the DRM-free version? I can't see this game listed on GOG.com... Also, what are the issues with Big Band?

Still only 1.1 in Ubuntu Software (i.e. "the Snap Store")... It's strange that it's taken them so long, because usually Snap updates come out pretty quickly in my experience (it's part of the reason I usually use Snaps over "traditional" packages).
Hopefully they push the update out soon though.

My experiences of Valve's VR on Linux

Just look at how many people are buying <insert VR solution> for use at home, and in the commercial market (e.g. family entertainment centers), VR is exploding.

Quoting: bekoI never expected so much discussions on this topic at all. I guess the interest in VR is really high for such a niche?VR is hardly a niche... For a million different reasons, it's clearly the future of entertainment, and the widespread interest in VR supports this.

And this is why I will stick to Sony PlayStation VR for the foreseeable future... I don't mind mucking around to get things running under a Linux-based operating system, but that amount of mucking around - especially for the price of the product - is just unacceptable.
Thanks for the (extensive) write-up, it was well worth the read though...
