SteamVR Headset From HTC To Release Windows Only First

Quoting: ElectricPrism3. Steam Machines haven't even been released yet - so it's a pre Steam Machine era, development tools for Linux are being pioneered by Valve and not perfected and integrated into dev workflows flawlessly yet.
Well they're up for pre-order now from at least one manufacturer [External Link], so they're as good as available (especially when they've been in public beta for so long)...

It's not like say, the PlayStation 5, that's kept under wraps with no access to it - people have been playing with Steam Machines for a while now, developers even longer, "select developers/partners" longer still.

What game would you most like to see on Linux this year?

Oh, and how about some decent MMORPGs?

Firefly Online, Star Trek Online or Queens Blade would all be appreciated... And I'd gladly throw money at the if I could play them natively in a Linux-based operating system!

I couldn't possibly narrow it down to a single game, but I wouldn't mind seeing...
* Blade Kitten;
* The "Dead or Alive" series (any or all of them);
* The "Doom" saga (packed-up for GOG.com or Steam)(all of them);
* Duke Nukem Forever (yep, some people actually enjoyed the game!);
* Jet Set Radio;
* Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude;
* Mortal Kombat Kollection;
* Playboy: The Mansion;
* Sega Genesis & Mega Drive Classics;
* The "Hyperdimension" ( "Neptunia" ) series (any or all of them);
* The "Rebuild" series;
* The Simpsons: Hit & Run;
* The "Wolfenstein" saga (packed-up for GOG.com or Steam)(all of them).

Yep, that should do it!

If those get released for Linux-based operating systems, I'm gonna be a pretty happy man... And a broke one at that! :D

Okay okay, if I had to pick just one out of that particular list?

Hmm, that's tough, but I'd probably go with The Simpsons: Hit & Run...

I'm tempted to say Playboy: The Mansion, Duke Nukem Forever or the Mortal Kombat Kollection, but The Simpsons: Hit & Run was a great game that has widespread appeal, so The Simpsons: Hit & Run would be my top choice.

AMD state they will support Vulkan on Linux in an upcoming amdgpu driver, not ready yet
17 Feb 2016 at 11:31 am UTC Likes: 1

And this is why when I buy the wife and I new laptops in a couple of months, I will go out of my way to get something with an NVIDIA graphics card... It's a little more expensive (okay, a lot more expensive...), but thus far AMD's support of Linux graphics cards has been appalling (all of the laptops we've had over the last fifteen years or so have had AMD graphics cards), and the fact that they can't get their s#&t in one sock to be ready for the Vulkan launch is just ridiculous!

NVIDIA's (official) drivers may be proprietary - but at least they're putting effort into making the Linux experience a better one!

I um-ed and ah-ed about going AMD again because it's so much cheaper and we're on a pretty tight budget... But we've given AMD a second chance, and a third, forth, fifth and sixth - it's time to look to a company that actually appreciates Linux-based operating systems.

Atari Vault, a 100 classic game collection heading to SteamOS & Linux

I'm not gonna hold my breath, but it'd be nice to see Gauntlet Legends... Yeah it's a much, much later game - but it was sooo addictive when it was at the arcades!

If this is going to add a whopping 100+ games to my Steam collection though, I will pick it up irrespective...

SteamOS beta update adds bluetooth pairing support

AfterShokz Gamez [External Link]... We have a whole house full of AfterShokz gear (including the recently crowd-funded "Trekz Titanium" [External Link]) and I simply cannot recommend them highly enough... You could also look at the Trekz Titanium [External Link], but I believe there's a bit of a wait, since those that crowd-funded it are the priority.

Anyway, the AfterShokz products [External Link] are surprisingly good quality, sweat-resistant (I can personally vouch for this - I've been running with my Trekz Titanium [External Link] for most of summer!) and safe for your ears.

Changes to login on GOL
30 Dec 2015 at 11:28 pm UTC

Quoting: EikeThe mail I've got doesn't display right in Kmail, neither as plain text nor as HTML.
Plain text ony shows the "Login detected from: ..." line, HTML view shows nothing, only white.
In Thunderbird, it only shows the content of the e-mail if I manually change it to text-only (i.e. Thunderbird won't auto-detect this particular e-mail's format)... Otherwise I just get a blank (white) e-mail with the subject "GamingOnLinux: New Login Notification".

Carmageddon: Reincarnation still aiming for a Linux version
30 Dec 2015 at 11:12 pm UTC

Quoting: ShaoluI guess the lesson here is that if a developer lists Linux support as a stretch goal, expect the deadline to be stretched as well.
And this is exactly why I won't crowd-fund a game which claims to support Linux-based operating systems, unless the developer has a history of supporting Linux-based operating systems (preferably within a reasonable timeframe) and/or there are other encouraging factors at hand (such as a trial or demo for Linux-based operating systems)...

All too often developers promise "Linux support" without having any knowledge of what's involved; or promise "Linux support", only to change their mind later or delay the game considerably.

Anyway, back on-topic - if and when this game comes to Linux-based operating systems, I'll pick it up... I can't say I played the previous games all that much, but when I did, it was a lot of fun... I don't see why this should be any different.

Street Fighter V confirmed to be coming for Linux & SteamOS
18 Dec 2015 at 12:30 pm UTC Likes: 4

I've gotta be honest, I'm not a big "Street Fighter" fan... Mortal Kombat was always my preference.

But for a SteamOS/Linux-based operating system release?

I'll go out of my way to buy this, and early on, too! If a developer like Capcom is going to support Linux-based operating systems, it's the least I can do...

Humble Indie Bundle 15 Has Launched, Say Hello To Skullgirls

Quoting: operaSkullgirls finally released on Linux! Nice! :)
I wasn't planning on buying any games this week - but the moment I saw the Linux version of Skullgirls (with all of the DLC to boot!) - I was sold!
