Steam Summer Sale 2019 is live, here’s what to look out for Linux fans
25 Jun 2019 at 11:04 pm UTC

Baldur's Gate 1+2 (Complete Saga) -79 % and the full Infinity Collection at -84 % are a real deal.

BTW

I bought BG 1+2 plus expansion packs when they were released.
Loved them but due to lack of time I never finished any of it. #shameonme

At that price I'm buying them again (enhanced edition) as they now support steam cloud saves.

Imho, that's one of the best features of Steam.
Log into your account at a different computer and the progress is shared.
If devs really do care this even works across platforms (not always though).

I'm using that quite often to the point where it really p*sses me off when it's not available.
Please ask devs to support this if they currently don't. :)
Valve should make that a mandatory feature for every game that supports save games. Really.

Canonical have released a statement on Ubuntu and 32bit support, will keep select packages

It's a personal thing.
Feel free to hate me for this, but I never liked Ubuntu being considered *THE* desktop Linux distribution - long before the Mir and Unity troubles, btw.

With the latest move(s) I had high hopes that this might finally change in favour of sth. better.

Raspberry Pi 4 announced and available - sounds like a pretty nice upgrade, Raspbian now based on Debian 10

Sounds good.
Looking forward to it.

Things I'm interested in.

Does it come with Vulkan support? (Proper Vulkan support)
And will it be a viable option to drive GC games via dolphin? :)

Canonical are now saying Ubuntu's 32bit is not being entirely dropped, 32bit libraries will be "frozen"

Canonical are known for that. It's not the first time :) Remember the whole Mir vs Wayland debacle? It's not far off from that.
Which is VERY unfortunate because I actually like companies trying new stuff and being courageous - so I feel a bit bad when bashing such efforts - but it was just a stupid idea and not helpful at all. :/

Quoting: ElectricPrismAlso if I get to take a stab at a new Steam named OS I might suggest a Linux named *whistles* GLaDOS
Great!

But wait... GLaDOS is basically an evil piece of software that tries to manipulate and kill you. :D

Quoting: liamdaweSounds like Wine still won't work: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/i386-architecture-will-be-dropped-starting-with-eoan-ubuntu-19-10/11263/121?u=liamdawe [External Link]
Good read, Liam.

How can the pros at Canonical miss THIS?
Shouldn't they know about the rough design and dependencies of one of their most prominent software packages?
I mean, dropping Wine isn't something they'd consider a good move for sure.

*facepalm*

I really hope this won't stop Valve going for a new reference Linux distribution.

Quoting: Nevertheless
Quoting: deathxxxIf Valve move to FreeBSD, that will be great! Because BSD is more faster than Linux. Only AMD cards will have no binary drivers, so will force to use Mesa. For Nvidia is OK. PlayStation uses BSD already and we saw how it run.
Oh yes of course! Valve scraps everything they did for Linux (and community) and goes for BSD, turning to the vivid BSD gaming community for support, hoping for engine vendors, hardware vendors, middleware vendors, game developers to support their brand of BSD .. or doing it all themselves, because Canonical stops delivering Linux 32bit libs? I don't think so.
