Quoting: Edgarins29From twitter it seems that it was done with help by Ryan "Icculus" Gordon.
Ahh. I remember him complaining about others complaining about the pricing of a port.

It must be this then.

More than 15 EUR even with discount included is too much imho.
I'd say 10 or 8 EUR would be a good pricing.

Quoting: subOn a side note. Quite interesting read when it comes to Valve.

So far I'm a big supporter of them and grateful for what they did for Linux.
Yet, if that's even remotely true then I'm deeply disappointed by the mismatch
between what they want people believe how they are working and what it is really like.
I am really not a fan of Rich Geldreich, maybe the name has something to do with it (it means rich, money, rich). But his tweets are only salty, so I don't listen anymore to anything he has to say.
Here is a more objective story about Jeri Ellsworth:
https://www.polygon.com/features/2017/4/12/15257842/jeri-ellsworth-profile-castar-valve [External Link]
She was hired, and booted, and got to take all her research with her for the symbolic price of $100. The payment is a legal thing to be able to transfer the work done.
It was currently the right move for Valve to fire her, but I hope when VR is crystalized and done (they are still developing and fixing graphics in linux just to get VR just right), they hire Jeri again to get on with AR.
Her CastAR project in the mean time seems to be dead.
Thanks for the link!

No wonder we probably won't see any great games anymore from them,
when people are now working in such a hostile environment.

Whoooa. Great!

It's also on Steam for the very same low price.
Installing Linux version right now (Steam).

EDIT: Starts and seems to run fine.

Shockolate is a new cross-platform source port of System Shock 1

Quoting: ripperDoes this have the same improvements as the Enhanced Edition, i.e. higher resolutions and mouselook?
Yeah, I would like to give this a go but I need proper mouselook feature. Has anyone tried it? I ask it, because the GIF doesn't look like a native mouse look.
Looks like it:

Quoting: SamsaiI built it quickly and got it to work. Keep in mind that the game wants the System Shock Enhanced Edition files to function. I loaded it up with Classic edition files and that just yielded some segfaults. So, to play you need to download the Enhanced Edition, innoextract the Windows installer and copy the app/res folder to where-ever you built Shockolate. Still seems a bit crashy and on Arch at least there isn't any sound (didn't build my own SDL2 stuff) but it renders pretty smoothly at least.
Thanks!

That sounds very promising.

OpenGL to be deprecated in the next macOS release, could mean interesting things for Linux gaming

Quoting: ArdjeI've heard a developer say that the only reason he also has mac as a platform is because it is so easy to generate the mac version. As for money it wasn't worth any hassle. Now I don't know what he said about the linux version, as I was playing edeejay at the same time.
I think this could be seriously problematic. This affects indie devs not using one of the big engines, that include Linux targets. If it is not possible anymore to at least more or less cover Mac+Linux with the same effort, than the little Linux alone market share won't cut it for many devs, I'm afraid.

So can AMD ship their own OpenCL implementation?

Isn't NVidia providing CUDA on macOS?

"no vulkan allowed" storefront.

You mean Vulkan API apps are not allowed on the Microsoft store?
Really? Can you please point me to a source?

Meanwhile all Lead-Rendering-Engine bigwigs on Twitter like:

"C'mon it's so straightforward to add an abstraction layer for rendering backends - it's the way to go, anyways."
