Day of the Tentacle Remastered will not be on Linux at launch

Oh boy, how I love that game.
However, that remastered version does not appeal to me.
IMHO it looks ugly compared to the original version.

Anyone knows if they use some kind of filter to "generate" the
new graphics (similar to what ScummVM supports) and
just manually "polished" it afterwards?

You can thank AMD for that...

Microsoft's latest tactics show Gabe Newell of Valve was right to worry

Since Newell is a former Microsoft guy,
he might still have excellent contacts to insiders.
Most likely he "knows" what Microsoft is up to.
This is, ofc, even more valuable than an educated guess.

How SteamOS could become a better console competitor

Quoting: EagleDeltaFor the Exclusives, SteamOS/Steam itself already has a couple killer exclusives:

1. Buy once, play anywhere. Not just the same vendor platform (Like what MS is doing with XBone and Win10), but ANY platform the game is on for steam, you can play it on that platform. Another nice little piece of the pie is that I never have to re-buy classics to play them again. My biggest complaint about the emulation of older classics on newer consoles is that they HAVE to be re-bought every generation.

[....]

From my experience, that's still a big illusion currently.
Savegames are in most cases not shared across different platforms, accessible via Steamcloud.

In the end that makes it a feature of very, very little value.

AMD state they will support Vulkan on Linux in an upcoming amdgpu driver, not ready yet

Quoting: subWell, AMDGPU will hit the kernel in a usable state in autumn, if things are going well.
Where did they give an ETA? Such a huge time until a usable Vulkan driver for AMD sounds pretty bad.
I stand corrected, but AMDGPU is WIP and still requires stuff that will be merged at the very earliest in Linux 4.6. If they fail to get the patches accepted, it might take even longer. So they didn't give any ETA but the progress on AMDGPU gives us some hints.

Well, AMDGPU will hit the kernel in a usable state in autumn, if things are going well. Let's face it, that's a bummer.

I too hoped for an intermediate Catalyst release with the Vulkan bits enabled. Just to show some initial support. From a PR perspective that's close to a desaster, imho. I'm a long-term loyal AMD user, btw. But that's just didappointing.

I appreciate all the open-source efforts and AMDGPU seems like a very clever idea. However, providing a good Vulkan driver on release feels like a one-time chance to help the brand when it comes to Linux. A missed opportunity. :/

Vulkan 1.0 specification and SDK have been released

Quoting: GuestI just hope Blizzard implement this in WoW because it really is the one and only game/application that annoyingly keeps me dual booting.

One can dream.
How would that magically make it a Linux port?

Want to play XCOM 2? The system requirements for Linux & SteamOS have been sent out

Quoting: subAs AMD user I'll most likely have to play it under Windows.
Why?
Because I want to play that game soon... :)
And *if* it's really that it is not playable on my AMD configuration,
then I won't hesitate to play the Windows version.

And switching to Nvidia is not an option for *me*.
I support AMD for their open specs and OSS drivers.
I'm pretty sure this will eventually lead to a great OSS driver,
capable of playing recent AAA games with good to very good performance.

IMO, supporting Nvidia harms Linux way more than the decision
to play a new AAA game on Windows because it performes poorly
on Linux/Catalyst.

It seems I get pragmatic lately...
and I feel good about it. :D
