Interesting stuff indeed. I'm very curious what the goals for the project end up being.
Running Quest games on the Frame? Reverse FEX (running ARM applications on x86)? Getting Android applications like YouTube or Netflix on Linux to make SteamOS more comparable to consoles?
So many potential use cases but only time will tell.

The headset sounds neat but I'm much more interested in SteamOS for ARM. ARM GPUs are getting quite good and could open some very interesting possibilities. A tiny Steam Deck Mini. Or a regular sized one with a massive battery for insane battery life.
I think Valve could make something really special if they polish the drivers and software stack. Especially since AMD hasn't done significant improvements in low TDP scenarios yet. Always good to have a backup option.

Bought the game yesterday through Fanatical, though I had to regularly try to checkout for over 24 hours until I could buy it. Unsurprisingly, game keys are in high demand for the game.

I'm glad that the Steam Deck only makes up a fraction of the userbase.
Once marketshare is high enough for more multiplayer games, it makes limiting support just to the Steam Deck hardware much less viable. That is definitely a risk as seen with games like Delta Force.
But if the trend continues, they'll have to support a wide range of hardware and distros.
Let's keep climbing.

It's not like the overlay gets used in many games but it's very confusing why it's an issue in the first place. I doubt they actively block Linux with it.
Does it use a niche Windows feature or something? If it ever gets supported, I would love to know what the issue was.

NVIDIA DLSS support in progress for NVK, the open source Vulkan driver for NVIDIA GPUs

This is probably the single most important thing that NVK needs to be a viable option as a driver alternative.
Nvidia exclusive features are a big reason why people buy those GPUs and DLSS in particular has been a huge advantage over AMD until FSR4(and even then DLSS still has the edge).
It's obviously still far off but the fact you can use those features on open source drivers without explicit support from Nvidia is fantastic. In the future we might have drivers in the kernel like the AMD ones with most RTX features and we won't need to wait for Nvidia to address issues (like the DX12 performance regressions).
This is huge for Nvidia usage on Linux and one of the major things SteamOS needs for an official public release.

From what I remember, it does dedicated hardware checks for the Steam Deck CPU and SteamOS.
While both are probably possible to fake, you run into the risk of getting banned whenever the anti-cheat gets updated.
Unless it's officially supported by the devs, it's better to just treat it as inaccessible under Linux.

At least the high end one is better priced than comparable handhelds but I can already see the confusion from people when their "Xbox" device is just a Windows handheld with a fullscreen app slapped on top.
Maybe they still have enough brand recognition to pull it off but this whole thing just feels so confusing.

That's a really good deal but I want to mention that I couldn't get the DLC for Alan Wake II to work when I played it earlier this year. The game tries to check for the DLC ingame and fails with an Internet connection error.
That was with Heroic Launcher. I can't remember if I tried the Epic launcher with Proton. I had to use Windows to play the DLC.
Base game worked absolutely fine though and performed slightly better under Linux for me.
