A shame, given that it's the only game I would really miss when I get rid of my Windows 10 installation after support runs out.
But honestly, I can't really blame them. After seeing the very pathetic state of Counter-Strike's attempt at an server "anti-cheat" from the biggest company pushing Linux gaming, it really doesn’t inspire much confidence.

Valve still waiting on a 'generational leap' for Steam Deck 2 - but it's coming

The Switch 2 will steal any attention for a good while, anyway. Better to just wait for a better launch window.
I'm very curious what hardware they're gonna choose, though. Currently, AMD is the obvious choice but a lot could happen in 1-2 years.
Intel has impressive upscaling technology and Lunar Lake seems pretty great but drivers need to mature. GPU especially.
With enough investment they could also push for ARM. The pieces are there, they just need more work. But it could be doable until the Deck 2.
And with the Mediatek/Nvidia collab, there might be even a chance for an RTX handheld. Although, I'm unsure if Valve would give up control of the GPU drivers.
Really interesting time for speculation.

I don't follow the project too closely but it's always exciting to see just how much it improves in such a short time. Not to mention how this will contribute to general ARM (or even other architectures) improvements.
The ever increasing power requirements for modern GPUs (the GTX 1080 only needed 180 W) makes me more interested in the developments in integrated graphics and ARM improvements. I could see myself getting an used Mac Mini in a few years or we maybe finally get some good competition in that space.

Given the Switch 2 being around the corner, I expect a Steam Deck 2 release at least a year after that. The release in Australia strengthens this suspicion, because announcing a new Steam Deck right after finally releasing the old one would not have the best reception.
But now that Valve expands delivery to a new country, it makes me wonder if they already made preparations to sell in other less mentioned areas or if they do it slowly one by one.

Remnant 2 and Persona are definitely the main highlights of this but Jusant is also a really nice addition.
A relatively short and relaxing experience while also having some decently tricky climbing passages as well.

I think a SteamDeck Mini or something could be nice. Trading compatibility and performance for a smaller form factor and possibly better battery life. It could provide a good way to test compatibility instead of completely jumping to ARM for the regular Deck. And people who don't like the rather large size of the Deck might like it.
Maybe as a mid-gen release for the SteamDeck 2 similar to the OLED to keep interest up?
There are many interesting directions they could go with this.

Does anyone know what the actual issue with the PlayStation Overlay is? I tried searching through Github issues at one point and didn't find anything.
Is it a Windows API that hasn't been implemented yet? Does it use libraries that don't work properly with Proton? Is it some sort of DRM/anti-cheat that doesn't work?
I find it odd that the overlay has been around for a while and I never even heard about what the problem is.

The fact that it's specifically about patents instead of just copyright, does give the impression that they tried to find whatever angle to sue from, regardless of how small it is. Gonna be interesting to see what they dig up, since Palworld isn't the most unique game in terms of game mechanics.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it's more about merch than the actual game. I know many people who would go nuts over a Chillet plushie and with Sony in tow it could actually have a noticeable impact on Pokémon merch sales in the future. Better not take chances and instead sue the company into the ground beforehand.

Microsoft Windows kernel changes don't suddenly mean big things for Linux gaming

At the end of the day, if developers want to block unsupported platforms, they have plenty of methods to do so. And there is no way to prevent this. The only option is to convince companies to consider Linux as a supported platform.
Which needs:
I believe that 10% marketshare is definitely possible and would probably be enough for at least a consideration. But that's not gonna be enough without some solution to the second point.
I don't know how this "solution" is gonna look like. Maybe something like the TPM chip could be used to sign and lock down the kernel for SteamOS and other major distributions? Something that could be toggled at boot time?
Would suck for people using modified kernels or unsupported distros but I think it would be preferable to at least have an option to run those game in a limited environment over needing to dual boot with Windows.

- Enough players
- An actual solution to the anti-cheat situation
