New Steam Controller 2 and VR controller designs got leaked
27 Nov 2024 at 7:37 pm UTC Likes: 3

There has no doubt been a compromise to get all the inputs on the controller but I trust that they did enough testing on it.
I doubt they would release something like that if it weren't comfortable for at least 95% of testers. So even if the sticks look quite far away, it's probably going to be fine.

So excited for this. I might've considered the Hori controller when they sell them in Europe (assuming) but now I will wait for whenever this comes out. This has been enough confirmation of its existence for me.

Jedi: Survivor got low enough for me to finally get it. Also helps that they didn't get rid of the bundle (which they seemed to do often during sales) which makes it slightly cheaper on top of that.

Other than that, I'm probably good.

Steam Controller 2 is apparently a thing and being 'tooled for a mass production' plus a new VR controller

Provided the Steam Deck 2 has enough CPU power, I could see a eGPU solution quite possible. Might be an interesting option for people and a dedicated controller would be needed then.

Or making a second variant alongside the VR stuff is cheap enough to just go ahead with it. Would make people happy.

I also hope the VR controllers can be used by itself. Wiimote + Nunchuck have been the most comfortable control scheme I ever used. Just the fact you can keep your arms in whatever position you want is really nice. I'm a bit disappointed that there are so few options for this setup, the tiny joycons being the most common ones.

Quoting: Phlebiac
Quoting: GOL_USERbe nice to have a better updated version that all can play instead of a limited upgraded version only green team can play.
Have they said anywhere that it will require an Nvidia card? If I remember correctly, Quake2 RTX initially did (because nothing else supported ray-tracing at the time), but now you can run it on any GPU.
You can run it on AMD but performance is terrible. Full path tracing is just that heavy. Combined with a worse upscaling solution and it's just not worth it, even on a RX 7900 XTX.

Hopefully RDNA 4 improves on that front because the gap is really large here.

Half-Life 2 free to keep until November 18th, Episodes One & Two now included with a huge update

I was always a bit disappointed that the developer commentaries started with episode 1 given how interesting it would be for this game. So that's a nice surprise.

A graphical comparison between this and Half-Life 2 Update could be interesting. It seems they did quite a lot of tweaks and improvements.

Train finally returns to Counter-Strike 2 in the latest big update

I have yet to play Counter-Strike. Wingman seemed like a good way to learn with a buddy but it irked me that purpose-made maps for the mode were replaced with stripped down versions of regular maps. Good to know that the map selection gets expanded again.

Steam gets new tools for game devs to offer players version switching in-game
8 Nov 2024 at 6:53 pm UTC

Quoting: elmapulhoneslty, this shouldnt be opitional but mandatory, so developers cant screw players by removing content they paid for, or doing patches that destroy the game.

i can understand balance patches on multiplayer, but the same game single player being affected, should be optional, if i dont care about becoming pro, i dont care if the damage of my attacks is different on singleplayer vs multiplayer for example.
Especially since it already exists but you need external tools for it.

HORI Steam Controller releases in the USA in December

How's the build quality?
I currently use a Dualsense controller for my gyro needs due to it being easily available and working out of the box under Linux without 3rd party software requirements or limited remapping support. But the lack of back buttons is definitely a con.

While 4 back buttons would be nicer, at least I could see use for the one below the joystick. And with it now being easier to get, I might consider it.

Steam Game Recording has officially launched
6 Nov 2024 at 10:29 am UTC

After trying a bit under Bazzite, the experience was pretty bad sadly. From the ~30 minutes I tested, 90% of the recording was unusable, only showing a single frame that got updated occasionally. Also, microphone recording added a bunch of noise (haven't really looked at a solution yet). At least for gamemode, it's not working well for me. Might work better on desktop but GPU Screen Recorder already does enough for me there.

Hopefully it gets better.
