Been distro hoping alot the past month maybe lol, holo I tried early on and was unsure when I heard about his pro-war opinion towards the conflict in Ukraine but went for it and was quite happy with the OS, political stuff aside, but what that other person in these comments said makes the person sound very volatile and not someone who sounds very trustworthy, looking at the issues Valve has been facing with a ddos attack on L4D2 servers, is that all is takes is ONE bad actor to ruin ALOT of peoples day. Not saying they would but for me it gives me a lot of uncertainty what exactly I'm installing

I've been rocking Nobara OS atm, I've been happily tinkering for hours some nights testing different distros and so far, when it comes to gaming on linux, its been the most pleasant for me, I'm using the Official KDE build on my main SSD atm, with another for distro hoping.. tried the gnome build of Nobara. tried gnome on Popos too which made me come to realise how much more I prefer KDE

I've had some issues here and there with each distro I've tried so far, looking forward to tinkering with bazzite

gog is actually better than physical, you can have as many backups as you want, good luck riping your games that you have on physical media for other platforms, few people have the know how / tools to do that.

Yup, infact old pc games on disc always had drm themselves

GOG has all the pros of digital media with less of the downsides like DRM, with some downsides to GOG being things like regular updates, a native linux version or so forth

This one in particular hits me in the nostalgic feels, I'm 34 this year and grew up playing these games on PC, fond memories of being sat next to my dad watching the warm glow of the crt.. and searching for topless lara on the dial up 😂

I'm also from Derby so feel very proud of its heretidge, we have a road here called "lara croft way" in her honour 😊

And more besides (a few titles I'd picked up were affected too) - I wrote a bit about it over on the forum.

I really don't get their logic, they seem worried mods will tarnish their reputation so they try to prevent that by adding in these malware no one wants to their legacy titles.. what a great plan 😁

They note that people are comfortable with cd and movie streaming, but personally I would love something like GOG that focuses on drm-free movie purchases, and I still like to go to cex from time to time to buy used dvds for dirt cheap

Look at capcom recently adding in some drm into resident evil revelations, a game over ten years old! I don't feel comfortable with them having too much control over my purchases

As a casual linux user, I'm the type who mostly uses Windows but likes to tinker from time to time and see how Linux is doing, have to say I love cinnamon desktop (I think the eye candy sells it for me, I'm a simple man and it's a beautiful looking distro)

So I'm glad to see they'll support more future proof compositors, as a casual linux user I don't have the best understanding with things like wayland vs x11

I tried debian based linux os about maybe 5 years ago and I've never really tried other types of distro until recently with holoiso on a mini pc not too far off specs similar to a steam deck... but linux mint I have always found the most "stable" and enjoyable distro personally for that "It just works" mentality even if it's not pushing the same things a rolling distro might
