Pretty annoying really
I love to use emudeck on my ubuntu desktop machine, just makes setting up EmulationStation so seamless
I just hope and pray they don't pursue after other developers like ryujinx, or even worse go after older emulators like maybe go after dolphin again :(

This is worrying for the future of emulators, and the possibility of even going after older ones like dolphin
I guess snes9x and stuff like that should be pretty safe at least 🤣 which kinda reminds me how if Nintendo had it their way, we'd only be able to play their old legacy games through their NSO subscription service
The community do this for preservation, not to take money from nintendo

Wine 9.2 brings Mono updates, system tray fixes and more

Similar to why people run console versions of pc games on console emulators I guess, it helps find any flaws

Quoting: whizseMakes senseQuoting: Doktor-MandrakeSeeing the bug fix for dolphin emulator got me wondering what would be the reason to use it over the native build, I'm assuming to use the direct x api but now just makes me wonder which games work better on it because vulkan on native seems to work great on the games I've testedYou would have to ask the bug reporter exactly why, but one reason to test FLOSS Windows applications with Wine is that it's much easier to see how they use a specific API. Source code is available, so you can skip the debugger.
In this case Dolphin seems to have exposed a limitation in the Windows.Gaming.Input API in Wine.

I kind of miss only being able to play the games you were bought as a kid, these days I cam just play any game I want
Hmmm.. I might even try and get Destruction Derby running "somehow" on a certain ducky something station ;) see how it is
OH and one game I did love was Carmageddon as a kid, C2 specifically, and that game was 100% inspired by banger racing

Quoting: Oet_Sorry for the stupidly late reply, but no I didn't :(Quoting: Doktor-MandrakeThis one in particular hits me in the nostalgic feels, I'm 34 this year and grew up playing these games on PC, fond memories of being sat next to my dad watching the warm glow of the crt.. and searching for topless lara on the dial up 😂So did you also play Destruction Derby back in the day? :)
I'm also from Derby so feel very proud of its heretidge, we have a road here called "lara croft way" in her honour 😊

The original SteamOS-like Linux distro HoloISO now dead, replaced with immutable version

Been distro hoping alot the past month maybe lol, holo I tried early on and was unsure when I heard about his pro-war opinion towards the conflict in Ukraine but went for it and was quite happy with the OS, political stuff aside, but what that other person in these comments said makes the person sound very volatile and not someone who sounds very trustworthy, looking at the issues Valve has been facing with a ddos attack on L4D2 servers, is that all is takes is ONE bad actor to ruin ALOT of peoples day. Not saying they would but for me it gives me a lot of uncertainty what exactly I'm installing
I've been rocking Nobara OS atm, I've been happily tinkering for hours some nights testing different distros and so far, when it comes to gaming on linux, its been the most pleasant for me, I'm using the Official KDE build on my main SSD atm, with another for distro hoping.. tried the gnome build of Nobara. tried gnome on Popos too which made me come to realise how much more I prefer KDE
I've had some issues here and there with each distro I've tried so far, looking forward to tinkering with bazzite

Quoting: fenglengshunAt that point just use Universal Blue's Bazzite. The devs has much clearer track records and works together with various other project. Plus, you can easily clone a repo where you can layer in your own packages and user files to pack into a custom image of your own. Thanks for the recommendation, going to try it out

GOG has all the pros of digital media with less of the downsides like DRM, with some downsides to GOG being things like regular updates, a native linux version or so forth

Quoting: elmapulYup, infact old pc games on disc always had drm themselvesQuoting: finaldestThe only exception being PC gaming as its simply impossible to buy games physically so I am sticking with Steam and maybe GOG in future if they ever give linux 1st class support.gog is actually better than physical, you can have as many backups as you want, good luck riping your games that you have on physical media for other platforms, few people have the know how / tools to do that.

I will almost 100% picking it up, and it's great that it's already been verified before even release

Quoting: PenglingI really don't get their logic, they seem worried mods will tarnish their reputation so they try to prevent that by adding in these malware no one wants to their legacy titles.. what a great plan 😁Quoting: Doktor-MandrakeLook at capcom recently adding in some drm into resident evil revelations, a game over ten years old! I don't feel comfortable with them having too much control over my purchasesAnd more besides (a few titles I'd picked up were affected too) - I wrote a bit about it over on the forum.

They note that people are comfortable with cd and movie streaming, but personally I would love something like GOG that focuses on drm-free movie purchases, and I still like to go to cex from time to time to buy used dvds for dirt cheap
