Some thoughts on switching from Ubuntu to Antergos for Linux gaming

When I started with Linux only a few years ago I went to Linux Mint since it was the "beginner distro". After using Windows my entire life I suddenly had so much control over my desktop. But I wanted more. After jumping around from Mint to Mint's Debian Edition, to actual Debian, a little Fedora too, I noticed I was using the Arch Wiki for solving most of my problems. After giving Arch a try and struggling through the beginner installation guide on the wiki I was hooked.

The latest Steam Beta Client fixes a nearly 4 year old Linux issue, fixes other Linux issues

Quoting: GuestIt closes to tray... but you cant doubleclick it to bring it up again. So that's pretty annoying.
The SIGTERM issue being fixed is *very* nice however.

Looking at the amount of fixes you'd almost think Valve has hired someone to actually work on the Linux client :p
Double click not reopening on Arch either. Luckily I don't close Steam ever.

Wine 2.0-rc1 released, also showing progress towards Overwatch working in a future Wine version

My only gripe with using Wine over just taking a minute to restart into Windows is performance. The games I would want to play that are Windows only typically run like garbage unless you want to play in ultralow at 720p. And I don't have a powerful computer to play a game that runs like shit but is pretty/runs fine but looks like shit. High settings and 60FPS or bust.

And unless Overwatch can run well in Wine, I'll keep rebooting to Windows to play it. Though to be fair, I don't do that very often simply because I won't do it unless I know I'll be playing Windows only games for a while.

Got this on release and I'm at about day 70 or so. Really enjoying it. Music and voices are great and the UI is clean. Great story so far too.

I could join in if time allowed (weekends) and the game was EU4 or Stellaris. Maybe CK2 but I'm out of practice. Cool idea though. I love watching the dev multiplayer sessions on the paradoxextra youtube.

The Linux Port Of Arma 3 Is "Promising"

I bought Arma 3 back when it released, but I think I've only played a couple hours of it. Maybe this'll actually get me to play it.

Gabe Newell Talks Steam, Vulkan With Support From Blizzard, Source 2 And More

Quoting: MaelraneAs far as I know Blizzard hasn't updated their OpenGL Renderer in World of Warcraft since 2010. Meaning it still can be run under MacOS but certain features are not available there.

Out of curiosity I tried it out again under Wine and it runs perfectly fine, but still sad that there is no official support. Not that I would play that game again, but generally speaking some Blizzard games (like StarCraft 2) would be really great to have natively on my favorite platform.

But then again I'd love to see Guild Wars 2 above all :/
We probably won't see Blizzard and Linux together any time soon. But really I don't mind since a lot of Blizzard games run near perfect in Wine.

Quoting: loggfreakthe only downside to KDE is the massively slow boot speed, aside from that it isn't really slow/bloated like many people say
boot speed on KDE is a lot longer than any other DE, though plasma5 is a big improvement in this aspect
I'm running Arch and Plasma 5 on an 1TB Samsung SSD and my boot time is about 10 seconds :P
