AMD reveal Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D, 'Fire Range' HX3D for mobile, Ryzen Z2 for handheld PCs, RDNA 4 and FSR 4

Of course, right after I order an expensive custom computer from a boutique builder with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a 4080 Super. My new build that I won't even receive for another 2 or so weeks is now out of date already. Oh well, at least it will be fully repairable and upgradable in the future to newer stuff, unlike my old computer that died last month, which was a godawful HP Omen that was proprietary garbage that I was given during the pandemic.
Your computer is NOT suddenly "out of date" just because something new releases. The 9800x3d is still the best gaming CPU and will last you for years. The dual-CCD 99x3d are likely to be worse just like last-gen for gaming so not a big loss. And 4080 Super is a great card with superior raster and RT performance

Fedora Asahi Remix 41 brings AAA gaming to Apple Silicon with Linux

In my opinion, Apple can never be be the future of gaming thanks to its 'walled garden' approach and because they change CPU architecture about as often as I change clothes. Many games that used to work don't any more because they were built for Intel Macs, and before that, PowerPC

I always use mangohud as a global frame limit. Seems weird that this option was previously absent on Linux itself tho. Nice to see it finally get added

The Witcher IV revealed with Ciri as the protagonist

Quoting: EhvisNot surprising and a good choice. They have a lot of work to do though. Ciri was not super interesting to play in the few section of TW3 because the mechanics just weren't there. And since Ciri is not an actual witcher, they have a lot gameplay design work to do. So we can probably expect something quite different.

Should help the story as well. She's an established character with plenty of opportunities for growth and epic stories. And the fact that it makes it easy to run into Geralt over the course of the games will help too.

But it'll be many years before we see this, so my part will just be making sure I survive that long.
Apparently somewhere between the end of TW3 and the beginning of this game, she got made a Witcher (sidenote: did you notice the Lynx medallion on her? So we'll probably get to see this school in the game, or members of it).She also has cat eyes, can use potions, and signs. All signs point to her having undergone the mutations

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered v1.4 brings various controller fixes plus improvements to AMD FSR and Intel XeSS

Yay! Transmog! This is an amazing update tbh. It's definitely the definitive version for me to play of Zero Dawn. Couldn't go back to the old one now.

Valve now sell refurbished Steam Deck OLED models
11 Dec 2024 at 10:45 am UTC

That is cool. I would buy a refurbished OLED if it offered better performance than LCD. But it doesn't which makes the upgrade from LCD honestly not worth it for me.
As it stands I'm waiting for Steam Deck 2 which will hopefully have a bit more performance headroom. Not even 3 years after the SD release it's already struggling with new titles

Valve may be working on a new kind of Steam Machine

I think a Steam Home Console would make a lot of sense. Less flexibility than Steam Deck but improved processing power. The ecosystem is already there, they just need to make the hardware for it

NVIDIA 565.77 stable driver for Linux released

Quoting: legluondunetWhat is the added value today for Linux users to buy a Nvidia?
To my point of view and Linux gamer experience, it appears to me today more comfortable to use a AMD GPU, because of his better integration with Linux Mesa/Kernel.
For me 99% of what keeps me on Nvidia is DLSS. It has the widest game integration vs. FSR and XESS, and superior image quality. FSR has way too much artifacting. Even on the tiny Steam Deck screen I can already see it. So yeah, probably not gonna switch to AMD unless their upscaling solution becomes significantly better
