Quoting: PenglingMy apologies to the devs, but I always, ALWAYS misread Funselektor as "Funskeletor [External Link]"! :tongue:Wow. I would have expected Skeletor's laugh to be a bit more menacing.

Quoting: wvstolzingSpeaking of GNOME (which I've gone back to using), I recently found out about this issue on the official gitlab: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gsettings-desktop-schemas/-/issues/52 [External Link] — there seems to be a serious initiative to replace Cantarell as the UI font, with Inter. I really hope this gets carried through.I pay little attention to fonts. What's the difference between the two?

Could be fun--definitely my kind of thing.
That said, when it comes to superhero games, computer just can't match the flexibility of a good paper & pencil, like say Champions aka Hero System. I've played a woman who could turn into a giant spider, which was a lot more effective than I was expecting because in a game, unlike in the comics, there is no rule that says any fairly serious opponent will ignore your webbing for plot reasons. I've played a being called Timeflow, who did things like suck the speed out of opponents to speed himself up, and who was hard to hurt because attacks on him slowed down as they impacted. He also sort of ate clocks and watches and stuff--sucked the time out of them so they stopped. That was intended as a sort of special effect, but turns out in the superhero genre it's an important power. We ended up with the dreaded "you have to do X before the self-destruct/doomsday device counts down to zero!" situation, and Timeflow walked up to it and . . . it stopped counting down.
The point is not that I'm awesome, although of course I am! The point is, you can't do that kind of stuff in a computer game.

Huh. The setting and the basic idea of the plot seem creepy and dystopian. The heroine on the other hand is very much bubbly and cheerful. Interesting contrast.

Quoting: PikoloIt being dumb would not make it untrue. The reality as far as I can tell is somewhat fuzzy--no, the law probably does not specify that the benefit of the company == short term profit to the detriment of long term value. And quite a bit of the shift towards that kind of thinking is actually related to executive compensation schemes involving stock options and such, which motivate executives to juice the stock price now. But US economic thinking has for some time had a culture emphasizing short term shareholder returns, based on ideas put forward by some very influential (if wrong) economic thinkers (these thinkers, in turn, were influential because they suited the profit motives of some very rich short-term profiteers who did not want to be regulated). As a result, if a US court had to decide what the benefit of a company was, it might well operate as if these influential economic thinkers were correct.Quoting: ElectricPrismI really don't like companies beholden to Wallstreet Stock Investors. The companies have 2 masters and they always pick their stock holders over their customers -- infact it's legally codified that they are required to otherwise they could be sued for not squeezing every dollar and cent. That's not really true. Officers of the company have a duty to act for the benefit of the company, and can be sued if they don't - that much is true. But that doesn't mean they're required to maximizes short term profit at the detriment of long term value - that would just be dumb.

Quoting: CatKillerIt very much sounds like a scam to extract money from venture capitalists.. . . Mind you, I don't have a big problem with that. Those folks clearly need money extracted from them.

Quoting: PenglingMakes me wonder if a lot of the top cheats are made by competing anti-cheat vendors trying to nobble the competition . . .Currently Apex Legends uses Easy Anti-Cheat, which clearly isn't defending against these attacks. And that's anti-cheat in a nutshell.
We've seen other EA published titles move over to EA AntiCheat, which blocks Linux, so hopefully EAC will combat it and we don't get left with another broken game that moves over to EA's own tech for it.I'm sure that's what they're angling for. The current industry claim is that Linux is too small of a market but allowing Linux users to play creates masses of cheating that didn't exist otherwise, after all.
