Crypt of the NecroDancer gets a BIG surprise update with more to come

Aha! I should go play that some more. I always intended to add in some of my own music but never got around to it, seems like it's easier now so I should go do it. For some reason I always thought it would go very well with Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows".

GOG finally remove the false "in progress" note about GOG Galaxy for Linux

Thinking of Proton, it's open source. If GoG wanted to set up their store so that when a Linux user bought a Windows game they could easily play it with Proton, like they can on Steam, GoG could do that. But they don't.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceSo from what you're saying Feral's ports are Feral's issue not Valve's but it's ok to blame GOG for Linux ports on their store missing features ? Real fair.
Yes, I think it is quite fair to not blame people for things that are not within their control, but to blame people for things that are.
The Linux ports on GoG's store are missing features that they would have on Steam, because GoG's Galaxy that manages those features is not available for Linux, while Steam's stuff that manages those features is. Making Galaxy available for Linux is within GoG's control, so it is fair to blame them for not doing it.
Your arguments are crafted to appear logical, but they are in fact completely fallacious.

Mind you, GoG no doubt have their reasons for not doing it. But those reasons are about their perceived self-interest, which does not obligate us to ignore our own self-interest that they are damaging.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceI'll never understand the logic of Linux gamers. GOG gets criticized for not having a Linux version of their client by the same people who, a majority of, run out in droves to buy Windows games to play in Wine/Proton.
There is no inconsistency here whatsoever, the analogy is false.
It's about whether one has a choice. If people want Game X, and it's only available in a Windows version which they can play on Proton, then they will buy it that way. But most Linux people, given a choice of Windows with Proton or solid native Linux version, would go for the solid native Linux version. And if there were two companies somehow publishing the exact same game, but company A only made a Windows version and company B sold a Windows and a solid native Linux version, those Linux people would buy from company B, and badmouth company A for failing to do what company B does, much the way they badmouth GoG.

SteamOS 3.3 Beta out, plus a Steam Deck Client update

Quoting: NerdNoiseRadioI love all of this! But there's one update I'm waiting on that I'll admit to being disappointed not to see here. Now, it's possible that we already have this and I've just missed it, or it's possible that I'm just misunderstanding the situation altogether, but my understanding is that while the Steam Deck hardware itself technically supports ray tracing, due to something with the MESA drivers, RT is not functionally available on SD using SteamOS. Apparently it works in Windows, but I have no interest in going that route.

So, any word on if/when we Linux faithful will see rays on the Deck? And if it's available already with some tweaking, can anyone point me to a resource that walks me through it? While I have absolutely loved my experiences with Linux so far in general, I'm still pretty "noob" and don't really trust myself to try tackling it myself (or necessarily even know where to begin). :-) All I know is that the last time I played Cyberpunk, it still would not let me turn the RT toggle on. :-(

Thanks so much, everyone!!! ❤️
Isn't ray tracing kind of a hog that would bring something like the Steam Deck to a grinding near-halt?

Quoting: GuestDepends on your definition of care. They might care, but can't justify, which is a wildly different scenario than simply not caring.
I think one could have serious and interesting philosophical discussions about whether those two things are actually wildly different.

Strategy-survival game Dice Tribes: Ambitions gets a Native Linux version

You know, I like strategy-oriented games. And I generally find that after the first bit, I'm paying attention to the mental side, not to the graphics.
But there are limits. That is the most amazingly boring, brown user interface I have maybe ever seen. On top of which, the "tribes" seem to be so far beyond generic, their description so abstract, that again, it's gonna be really hard to identify with their success, or really experience the feeling that they represent "tribes" of people in any way.

So there might be an interesting mental challenge there, but it's like they went out of their way to make it as bland as it could possibly be.

73 of the top 100 most popular Steam games are playable on Steam Deck

Hmmm . . . So, 22 Unsupported. Of which, by my count, 11 are anti-cheat, leaving 11 just plain Unsupported. Of those 11, the list mentions 3 as "you can get it to work", so while the rating is accurate since "you can get it to" isn't good enough, it does show the game can run. That leaves 8 plain Unsupported. Of which (some number) are Unsupported not because the game does not run, but because there are things that make it unworkable on the Deck.

How many does that leave that simply won't run at all? Dashed few, it would seem. We've come a long way since Wine on Steam Machines.

Some Steam Decks ship with an x2 SSD instead of an x4 SSD

Quoting: Guest- Nobody pre-ordered it. Technically, we just reserved a place in the queue. So, as long as we get whatever's on the page when the purchase is actually done, I don't think there's anything we can do about it
That's a rather good point.

AOKZOE are the latest to attempt a Steam Deck rival with the AOKZOE A1

I was watching the Elden Ring demo for a minute . . . is that a guy talking? Because it sounds like my car giving me directions.

I think the only real hope for competitors to the Deck is based on the fact that although the Deck is selling really well, it has only one sales channel. It's a big channel, but the point is if some competitor can get their stuff on retail shelves or Amazon or something, where the Deck just doesn't exist, they can operate almost as if they weren't competing with anyone.
