Quoting: PhiladelphusYeah, they've been tearing up a street that runs maybe ~75 meters from my house for months now, often working late into the night. Nothing like the sound of heavy equipment wafting in through the window as I'm lying in bed trying to sleep. Please Fix The Road succinctly expresses my feelings on the matter. :grin:Beats the alternative. I always have the feeling that you can tell when society is starting to collapse--it's when the maintenance isn't being done any more.

Potentially good news for the Vosk project itself, which presumably will see increased interest hopefully translating into more developers. I mean, it may well be very good already, but I'm sure it still has places it wants to go.

Devise high-priced products for gullible consumers! This reminds me of a friend who worked for a security company. They sold alarm-type devices with software attached. They sold these in a range, three tiers I think from basic to deluxe, you know how it goes. The basic version was in fact the deluxe version with a few functions disabled. When he told me that I realized this was obviously not just his company, it is how things work.

Quoting: TheSHEEEPI've never been much into rumble anyway. Fine if it's just 'umble'.Quoting: Purple Library GuyOK, I now have a brilliant scheme for acquiring a Steam Deck fast, and cheap! But if you do that, it can no longer go "Brrrrrrr".
I just buy a Stream Deck and remove the "r"!
It will only go "B-b-b-b". Kinda lame.

GOG update their stance on DRM-free, Galaxy as 'optional' for single-player

But I think you're wrong here. I'm pretty sure that what you describe is not what GOG's position has historically been. Rather, I think it's pretty definite that they have always pledged not to sell you games with DRM on them, even DRM that the publisher rather than GOG put there. And so I think people who understand that to have been their stance are correct, and you are actually misunderstanding.
Mind you, that would have been a perfectly defensible position for GOG to have been taking, but it wouldn't have been that much of a selling point (doesn't really differentiate them from Steam all that clearly; yeah, there's some difference, but not really much of one--you can play Steam games offline, copy them to other computers and so on) and anyway, for whatever reasons, I'm pretty sure that is not in fact what they've been saying. They were actually taking the stronger position originally, not the weaker one you're talking about.

Quoting: dibzHonestly even the people that have a problem with their DRM stance on Hitman I feel like they're intentionally misunderstanding GOG's stance so they have something to be angry about. (snip)Just to be clear, I'm not all that bothered by GOG's shift of position here. I get that they're in financial trouble, and I get that the definitions have gotten slippery, and I get that modern multi-player games are often sort of DRM-as-basic-design.
To me DRM, and DRM-free, refers to the store and the installers, essentially. Do you have to download the gog installer from gog for it to work? Can you copy it, does it call in (TO GOG), etc and soforth? I think they assumed people were on the same page that they weren't restricting you by their DRM free claims. You know, like how Steam games do (well, optionally, not all steam games do) or you know, Securom.

Stellaris: Overlord expansion announced enabling you to expand your power

This sounds cool, although up to now I haven't done the whole vassal thing much. Now and then some little group that's been getting the snot kicked out of them by unpleasant neighbour/s will say "We can't make it alone! Will you be our boss?" and I'll be like "Well, OK I guess" and then they sort of sit there unless one fine day I remember to assimilate them.
Normally I just expand until I run into all the borders, pick a neighbour who hates me and start carving bits off them whenever I get the Influence together to claim a nice chunk of their systems. Lather, rinse and repeat until a crisis hits or something.
But I should really try it sometime.

Valve reduces size of Steam Deck Client in the latest update

It's also probably irrelevant to most Steam Deck users, because few will be installing much non-steam software, if any.

Quoting: emphyThat's completely illogical. If other things are taking up too much space, all the more reason for any given thing to take up less space.Quoting: andy155Valve reduces the size of the Steam Deck client in the latest update? Honestly but who cares? You really exaggerate with the deck news.On top of that; it's a fairly useless optimisation as long as the primary mode of installing non-steam software is using those bloated packages.

If I remember right, a Hand of Glory is the cut off hand of a hanged man (thief?), with the fingers holding up a candle. Version I've read about, the candle, when burned with the right magicky rigmarole, makes the inhabitants of a house sleep deeply so you can go in and steal from them. So, fairly creepy things.
