Retro FPS classic The Fortress of Dr. Radiaki is coming to Steam with an enhanced edition

Classic is a bit much. I was actively playing plenty of PC shooters back then, any I could get my hands on, even terrible ones like Tek War, and I've NEVER heard of this.

Steam sees a big rise in Simplified Chinese for February 2025 bringing Linux down below 2%

I don't understand why they are counted. They should be on their own client. I've never heard of such a thing outside of Steam.

Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source get major updates with 64bit support

I wish I could have lived in an alternative reality where Day of Defeat had blown up and been huge instead of Counterstrike. I've had FAR more fun in DoD than I've ever had in CS.

A lot of these organizations have become top heavy with too many bureaucrats. Management never wants to cut itself.
And in the US at least, our currently dominating political party supports the CEOs 100%. I worry it's only a matter of time before they go after our rights to unionise. Especially with people like Trump in power.

Classic Diablo game engine DevilutionX improves gamepad support, gets lots of bug fixes

I didn't play Diablo when it first came out, though I'm not sure why as I played other Blizzard games back then as a kid. Diablo 2 was my first one of the series and going back to try Diablo 1 was a painful experience. I've just never been able to get into it. Was used to all the advancements of 2.

Valve now warns on Steam pages if an Early Access game hasn't been updated in a long time

This should have been done a LONG time ago, but I'm glad it's a thing now. There's been so many projects that I was interested in or even bought that had been abandoned.

How long until they get sued for infringement on this? I'm skeptical about this stuff anymore not getting shut down by legal threats. Would love to be wrong this time though.

Intel and NVIDIA drivers holding back a public SteamOS release, Valve not trying to compete with Windows

@Soulsource - And yet, most Windows users I have talked to recently fail to see any issues with ads showing up in their application launcher, or in their notifications. Or stuff randomly breaking. Or...

At this point I have given up on trying to convince people to switch. They obviously enjoy sitting on a cactus.
Odd, that's not been my experience at all. I've run into lots and lots of people who complain about the ads all the time and want an alternative. Several people I know would switch in a heartbeat if Linux can get it together on the gaming front and work flawlessly in that department.

Google and The Linux Foundation team up for 'Supporters of Chromium-based Browsers'
15 Jan 2025 at 2:00 pm UTC Likes: 1

I don't like this at all and it seems obvious that this is a way for Google to not lose complete control of Chrome. I hope regulators continue to push to force google out of having anything to do with Chromium and chrome permanently. Also, all the other members are corporations that are invested in advertising and will still push hard to collect our data and force ads. The fact that they will continue to be so heavily involved means more of the same and more anti-adblocking crap. I don't see how this benefits open source if the freedom to use the browser the way we see fit is continued to be taken away.

Usage of proprietary middleware
This is usually the reason.

Only id under John Carmack went to the trouble to remove the middleware to be able to release the source code, as far as I can remember.
