Quoting: SlayerTheChikkenJust letting you guys know the reason for the removal might have to do with it being defeated again, they are likely removing it from older titles before the high seas get to it for reputational reasons. Just speculation though.
I was actually thinking the same thing. voices38 has been doing God's work.

NVIDIA Beta driver 595.45.04 released for Linux - looks to be an exciting one

Quoting: JohnologueCan't hear the NVIDIA updates over the fans of my perfectly functional GTX 1070...
But... but ... how is nvidia supposed to survive if you don't use their new vibe coded drivers?
Y'know, I usually don't defend Nvidia, but people getting pissy because they're discontinuing driver support for 10+ year old hardware is just beyond petty. Also, why would they be hiring more Linux engineers if the drivers are being vibe coded? Kinda doesn't really make much sense, but hey, you be an insufferable baby all you want.

Quoting: CaldathrasNot much benefit to me. My Nvidia chipset is stuck on the 580 series. Ah well, I knew it would happen eventually...
No biggie, though. Nvidia drivers are messy on Xfce (at least on my Mint system) since the 590 series, so I had to go back to earlier versions for it to work properly on my GTX 1650.
I've been seeing that 590 has problems all over the place, but it's been perfectly fine for me on CachyOS. Makes me wonder if it's the Ubuntu maintainers that have somehow broken it, which wouldn't surprise me.

EA Javelin Anticheat job listing mentions future support for Linux and Proton

Quoting: pete910It will be to run game servers, Not client. Don't get ya hopes up people !
Why would they want servers ran through a compatibility layer? This method has always been unsupported among games, and it makes absolutely no sense for EA to hire someone to do this.

KDE Plasma 6.6 will finally stop the system sleeping when gaming with a controller

I've had this problem across several environments, even recently. I've always used Caffeine to work around it (it has an option to inhibit sleep any time there's a fullscreen window on a monitor), but I've always wanted this to be built into the DE itself. Here's hoping GNOME and COSMIC follow suit.

The cross-platform Nexus Mods app v0.21.1 makes mod collection installation smoother

I really hope we get Bethesda game support soon.
Check out LIMO. I'm not exactly sure why Nexus disabled Bethesda support, because I used this tool to mod Skyrim SE around two years ago, but LIMO also works.

Nice, but I won't install it on my system until they make a Flatpak version
Gross, why? Do you just enjoy making things more difficult for yourself while simultaneously losing control over the things that are installed on your system? Like, there's a reason why people shout from the rooftops to go native as much as possible, especially when it comes to gaming. Also, this utility is already released as an AppImage. If you don't like that, unpack it, and plop it in /opt or something.

Steam Deck gets a new low-power screen-off downloads mode

Hey yo, one of those flags is a Liberia flag. XD
I think they're doing the "accidentally Liberia" meme. A lot of "patriotic" Americans incorrectly use the flag when they get on a soapbox about the US, and then double down on their ignorance when they get called out for not knowing it's the Liberian flag. There's a whole Subreddit for this. :p

Steam must make use of extensive compression because downloading and installing Steam games drives my CPU fan to be audible.
Are your games on your OS drive? Steam stopped hammering my CPU once I moved them to their own NVMe.

WinBoat is a new Linux app to run Windows apps with "seamless integration"

Saw this project last week. Been thinking of setting it up for old Adobe CS6 apps, because those are notoriously broken under Wine, and have been for a very long time. It's also not mentioned here, but I don't think USB passthrough has been implemented yet, so you won't be able to use controller firmware updaters and the like. It is planned, though, so there is that.

The Linux version of the original Splitgate has been removed

unfortunately, linux native packaging requires constant maintaining of apps that rely on external dependencies.
unless it is flatpak or appimage, proton version is better than outdated and borked linux build.
You do know that games installed through Steam don't install external dependencies through the respective package manager, right? They're provided through Steam with the game. It's up to the developer to bundle them, and it'd be no different if they went with Flatpak or AppImage.

7 years later, Valve's Proton has been an incredible game-changer for Linux

I remember when Valve first showcased native builds for Source Engine games, and how L4D ran with double the performance of the Windows build. Since then, I never imagined we'd be where we are now, but I'm so happy that Gabe has held faith toward the potential of Linux. I've been using the OS since I was in middle school some 15 or so years ago, and it's been a wild ride watching it blossom into what it is now.

Did not find my Controller idether so I turned it off.
You might be able to circumvent that with the global Steam Input profile. I had to do this for NFS Heat. Just go to Steam's settings (not the game's), then to the controller settings. You should see a "desktop" profile at the bottom. Click the button to edit it, and you'll be presented with the typical Steam Input window with a blank profile. If you click the area for the profile, you should have an option for a gamepad profile. Just load that, edit it for your needs, and that should be it. This workaround also works for games running through gamescope that don't detect the controller.
