Valve detail Steam Frame and Steam Machine Verified requirements at GDC 2026

I always interpreted "4K at 60 fps with FSR" being that you'll use Gamescope's FSR upscale for 4K with games that you can't run at that resolution natively, so verified requiring 1080p minimum makes sense as that probably upscales fine, but 30FPS maybe implies they're gonna rely on framegen? I'm really not a fan of that.

I'd buy a non DDR5 option if it came at a lower cost despite lower performance, honestly.

Quoting: benstor214I was always wondering in what world 'I want this free game' meant 'Yes, I DID change my mind: I now DO want to receive spam'.Remember: When something is free, you're the product.

Kotaku has received a screenshot of a statement a GOG employee put out in the patron discord server where it's claimed that the image was used by mistake but of course we get no evidence that they'd use an actual human design and it's still making up excuses for its use anyway, you may read here:

GOG has made another youtube video [External Link] e-begging for patrons and the thumbnail reeks of AI as well, here's a direct link [External Link] to the image as it is now. Maybe it'll change as there's already comments talking about it, I have saved it locally just in case.
I hate that I can't be sure but the style on it ain't looking great and they've already shown their hand with this, very disappointing that I have to cast doubt even more than before.

Regardless of any thoughts on it one thing remains clear - the more AI generation is used for the little things "it's just this, it's just that!" - the more it will be accepted, and the more it will replace actual people. We'll see less actual art, less real intentional character in what we see - and more slop with melting consoles.Gotta be real with you, this sounds hollow when you constantly promote ARC Raiders. Regardless of wether or not the actors signed off on it, there's nothing in there that needed it and it's just a severe cost cutting measure that'll lead to lower quality voice work the more accepted it is.

Better than nothing but you'd still be better off using dedicated managers than Vortex... Hope they can improve Vortex itself but I would give it a few years.
Ghostship - the new Super Mario 64 PC port gets a Linux release

Other ports of Mario 64 would get their compiled releases taken down but if you look you can still get the source code, this was because they'd get compiled together with the rom and so would include the assets within the build, which would be unauthorized distribution.
Only later on did it become standard to make N64 ports that would get the assets from a rom after the fact, which I think we first saw with Mario 64 on the co-op port, so that's why only those have releases sticking around in the open.
Nintendo rarely goes after you when they don't have a good angle, and using their assets or asking for money beyond just donations (see how Yuzu had early access builds behind Patreon) is a big no no.

Valve tweak Steam AI disclosure form for developers to clarify it's for content consumed by players

All I'm gonna say is two things:
Vibe coding is a joke for a reason, too many problems arise from it, ESPECIALLY when it comes to security (and you should care about the security of your machine!). Wasn't the whole AI code on Windows thing a hot topic just about now? You realize why?
Far as I know, there is absolutely no punishment for not disclosing AI specifically anyway, so whatever rules Valve puts up on this doesn't really make it enforcement and won't encourage honestly either way, which means we can never be sure.

Steam Machine verification will have "fewer constraints" than Steam Deck - but text sizing worries me

I hope a good scale in 720p is required for full verification, entirely because as much as the high end crowd is already beyond 1080p, a lot of average people still carry ~720p screens around (myself included).
It's still HD and actually looks fine!
