Unreal Engine FPS 'Storm United' Should Finally Update Linux This Week
23 Jun 2015 at 7:46 am UTC

Quoting: leillo1975I played this game one month ago before they closed the servers for Linux users and think that it will be a great FPS.
Thanks, I'll wait for the full release and a couple of months in then :)

Microsoft can still potentially kill Valve business easily (and most probably will eventually try), this hasn't change at all. Windows is already moving from a product oriented business to a service oriented business, which means that services like Steam will be competitors that need to be put down and imagine how easy that would be for Microsoft.
I imagine, and I don't see it as easy. (not at all)

What makes platforms like Steam or Facebook? Your contacts and all that "social stuff" I don't care about, but many do. It's the same with any other new platform, why should anyone move, if your friends are still at the old platform?

Simply forbidding Steam would be... not easy, from a legal standpoint. (At least not on the desktop)

Massive Planetary Annihilation Update, Galactic War Now Far Better

Their new kickstarter definitely came too early. It's sad on one hand because the idea of the new game looked great, but on the other hand they wanted to use the same engine AND improve it along the way (and backport!) BUT said only to support windows (how would that work?) if certain milestones would not be reached. I passed because of that very reason.

I still hope that monster game comes tho.

Quoting: michaSo there's Valve doing a lot a great efforts for Linux gaming and if they don't (and with that I mean delay!) on two instances people get angry and insulting.. that's how you leave a good impression of your community.. thx!
I guess the people at Valve will take it with humor (as it was meant). I couldn't care less for VR (although I must admit it leaves a bitter taste as to where priorities lie).

BUT: Valve isn't doing this because they see Linux as the great platform it is, they do all this, because they wanted to break free from Microsoft when the rumors about a (n even more) walled garden aka MS Store first appeared.

What Happens When You Request A Refund On Steam?
18 Jun 2015 at 7:24 pm UTC

I got my money back for a game that wouldn't run on my Linux setup that I bought in April. I don't want to say its name but I'm very happy about this. It hasn't been a lot of money, but > 10€. It was still in my lib tho (but it says "purchased" and after I deleted the game content it was gone!) and I haven't gotten a mail yet, but I have the money in my steam wallet :)

Dota 2 Reborn Launches Without Linux Support

I wonder why they put in resources into a renderer that "only" runs on one out of three supported platforms. I mean, OpenGL does work under Windows (I must know, I have been creating an OpenGL-engine from scratch for an universitary course and it needed to run on Windows :/). Yes, it was and maybe is crippled compared to DX, because MS was (and is?!) trying to push their own technologies for their platform, but personally I see Valve in a position where they could say:

"Well, dear customers, it's MS that is crippling OpenGL, so it's not us whom you should blame!"

If I were in their position I'd just use OpenGL (and Vulkan) and spit on a DX-Renderer.

Looks Like Shadow Of Mordor Won't Support AMD Graphics On Linux At Release

Quoting: maodzedunIs that why Bioshock drops to 30fps on medium in open spaces for me? Must be the insane performance I get from my 290x. Meanwhile in Windows I'm downscaling The Witcher 2 from 1440p and Planetside 2 from 4K and average over 60fps in both game. Please, AMD performance sucks big time. If I was intent on using Linux exclusively I wound't buy an AMD card if they gave me money to do it. Right now, a user who wants to game in Linux using AMD hardware has two choices - either use a crappy proprietary blob that provides 50% performance AT BEST if you're lucky and brings a number of bugs on the table, OR use the open source drivers which also bring sub par performance, lack proper GUI and come with various bugs, as well. Man, I'm truly shocked that no manufacturer would build a Steam Machine around these energy inefficient and heat producing GPUs that have been having inherently bad drivers for year. And don't even get me started on crossfire support.
No, that's because Bioshock is an eON title and your CPU is bottle necking your performance. That's hardly AMD's fault.
I have an 4790k, how can that be a bottleneck for anything - last I checked this is the most powerful per core consumer grade CPU on the market. And for the record - I got around to installing the latest driver (after jumping some hoops of course) and I see a noticeable improvement in the Witcher 2 performance. And considering it's also an eON game, I'm guessing the problem is exactly the crappy driver that holds my Bioshock fps down.
I really wonder if the new AMD hardware is supported so badly, because my old HD6950 (2GB) runs Borderlands perfectly fine on Linux with the open source drivers.

(Both, BL2 and BL:TPS)

Of course it can't run Bioshock Infinite.

As someone else pointed out, you would be willing to support a monopoly (Microsoft) over a monopoly (Nvidia), which makes no fucking sense. If you try to make the Apple claim, then I'll make the Intel claim. This is how asinine your argument is.
You are right, I'd rather support Microsoft than nvidia. But "support" is rather stretchable, as an nvidia card would cost me something, while I get Windows for free in my job :)

But why am I even explaining myself to you? I must have a really low self-esteem.

Just buy your nvidia, it's fine by me, really ;)
