strategic customers in faster-growing segmentsSo, try to make a quick buck and when these "strategic customers" stop buying, or outright won't honor existing orders/payments, blame whatever and disappear. Gotcha. Sounds like a great plan for a business.

Seeing that "Microprose" logo activated parts of my brain I thought were long gone.
I'll probably get this on release.

On the upside, the issue of having *anything* with transparency freezing the whole desktop is gone. This included extensions popup in firefox and the time tooltip when hovering the clock in the notification area…
On the downside, it made weylus unusable (a particularly niche case unfortunately), related to how window location and screen arrangement are reported. And video capture is not happy too…
OBS became unpredictable (a relatively larger case I'd wager). Related, the portal popup that allow selecting a screen/window for screen sharing freeze with a particularly obtuse error message in the logs (`mesa: error: MESA: failed to import sync file 'too many open files'`) rendering the whole thing useless, as even screen sharing from the browser is now borked.
And, still happening, trying to use the clipboard from a terminal application (say, using clipboard manipulation in vim in konsole) still won't work without setting up some call to external scripts that can't handle all common use cases.
So, one day ago, I switched again to X11. Everything works, and since I have no use for fractional scaling or anything fancy on my decade old displays, there's no tangible downside.
Also, since we're on the internet, some disclaimer: I *know* that this is only a personal experience. But it exists; on a system that's mostly a vanilla installation of Ubuntu+KDE Plasma, using very common software, on a graphic card from a manufacturer that represents a large share of the general public. And some of these issues are so often brushed off that it really irks me. I don't really have the resource to put development time in Plasma's implementation of wayland, and trying to raise awareness is usually met with a wall, which is frustrating. But as it is, switching to Wayland, on my relatively modern, up-to-date system, means losing features, having some software completely unusable, and the only recourse as a user will soon disappear. It does not feel great.

Quoting: melkemindSo, is Plasma Wayland in a good state for Nvidia users now?I tried switching back to Wayland two days ago, with a relatively recent version of KDE Plasma (using KDE Neon) and an NVidia RTX 3070Ti using the latest proprietary driver.

Then don't say it, especially if the game's author put a "no ai" tag on their game, doubly so when you have no basis to do so?
People have to remember that all IAgen models were trained on existing data. They *will* look like pre-existing art style; and not every model is "openai generic yellow old newspaper comics". Things are difficult enough without sending unsubstantiated claims on a feeling alone.

Yeah, everything is very exciting about the recent Valve announcement, but the emulation layer that runs one architecture on another really sounds like the biggest thing. We could do that before to some extent, but having this running not only in realtime, but with good enough performances that we can play on it, sounds like a boon for video game preservation.
Whatever happens in the future, there's a change that x86 gets replaced. If we have something that can take x86 and run it on something else, coupled with the most common API being available (so, FEX and wine/proton in this case), running older games on newer systems will benefit from that a lot.

Eh. Not even free games would bring me to use Ubisoft software these days. I'd be worried they'd ask me to delete it a few years later.

Dang. I was pondering about the VR situation on Linux *very* recently. I'm gonna get my hands on that headset, unless it's like $2k. My only concern would be the inside out tracking, but according to some (very early) reviews, it's good.
Time to sell what used to be a bit more than a thousand dollar of equipment and just devaluated very quickly :D

I have not been following much in term of Valve's announcement (because they're, you know, Valve). But if they get out a decent VR headset, autonomous (or wireless), but somehow still compatible with lighthouse tracking, that works fine on Linux, it's an instant buy.
I've been "stuck" with my functional, yet windows only HTC Cosmos Elite+wireless, and at this point I'm fed up enough with the hassles to look another way.
(yes, this is not exactly related to the article's topic… but reference to Valve work in VR are few and far between :p)
