while anyone can distribute FOSS games, the name should be trademarked to prevent stuff like this from happening...
there is nothing wrong with forking and charging for it, so long you respect the licence...

Quoting: PenglingJust curious: Are you required to use their application in order to dump your cartridges? And if not, is that something that they'll be adding?

I ask because something that was great about the Retrode 2 (a similar earlier device for SNES and Mega Drive cartridges, plus others by way of adapters) was that it simply presented itself as USB mass-storage - you could just copy and paste the ROM-image and your save-files this way, with nothing required other than your OS' file-manager.
that is an awesome idea.
you an even make your own interface if you want using some toolkit like gtk/qt or even godot to parse cli commands (cp, mv) into an nice controler friendly ui.

Quoting: EikeReally? You're seeing an increase of native Linux games?
well, i dont know, when was the last big brand announced?
i think this is just the begining, if steam deck start selling like an console, companies will care about providing an first class support for SteamOS if nothing else.
if linux had an bigger marketshare than windows, linux would be the first target instead of an after trhough, android is there to prove, and windowsphone is dead for a point.

well i guess that goes to those naysayers who thought native support were more important than marketshare...
proton made it sustainable to grow the marketshare , and the marketshare made it commercialy viable to offer native support again.
it has been a long time since we heard an big brand natively supporting linux and i think we will start to see it again.

[quote=buckysrevenge]Just to clarify, the Steam Deck uses the Windows version by default [External Link], but there is a Linux version. I also noticed that the Linux version uses OpenGL, which causes some texture issues for me on my other systems, forcing the game to use Vulkan fixes that.[/quote

Valve filed a 'computer game software' trademark for 'NEON PRIME' (updated)
15 Oct 2022 at 4:40 am UTC

maybe its because valve is infamous for not knowing how to count to 3 and having "valve time" maybe this branch will be different and work under a different schedule, culture/organization instead of the "anarchy" described by some valve employees...

Quoting: elmapulwe dont need the runtime to be opensource to make an code opensource, if we follow that logic, then we cant licence anything under GPL for windows.

maybe there are some incompatibilities that im not aware of, but i dont think so, if gpl contamined the runtime then an single program for windows being GPL (even if not written by microsoft) would mean the entire source of windows would need to be opensource.
No, this is covered by the system library exception:
https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#SystemLibraryException [External Link]

Unity is not a system library though.
what count as an system? an runtime to run an application?

Quoting: ShabbyXPretty sure can't license code written against unity as GPL. That would require unity's code itself to be GPL-compatible.
