why the hell they have so much trouble to make an installer?
games from scratch complained about it since the days it was called "cry engine" and this problem wasnt solved yet.
hell, dont ask me why, i already made an game engine from scratch and faced the dependence hell that linux used to have, so i know why its so hard.
but still, why its so hard? they make an hyper realistc raytracing solution in real time...
but they cant make an installer.

elden ring relased on 25 feb, and it sold 12 millions by 19.
44% of those were on pc.
https://clutchpoints.com/elden-ring-12-million-sold/ [External Link]
12 millions across 22 days.
1.67 per week
100 milions of dollars
1.7 millions ~2,7 millions
75 dias
steam deck need to sell 793.985 at 399 to get this ammount of money.
or...488.135 at 649.
so it need to sell between 488~794
valve said the best selling model of steam deck was the most expensive one.
pc = steam i guess...

Quoting: MohandevirI don't know how reliable it is, but just for the fun of having an approximation... It seems Elden Ring sold 13million copies in its first month...only 44% of the sales was on pc last time i checked.
13 million x 60$ / 649$ (Steam deck 512gb price, being conservative) = Over 1.201 million units...
In its first month? And it did better than Elden Ring? Did I miss something? If I'm not too far from the mark, the sales figure are pretty good.

Wolfire versus Valve antitrust lawsuit to continue

of course not.
on the other hand, from valve point of view, your game may represent 0,001% of their revenue, so they couldnt care less.
having an monopoly eanrs then more money than any individual game.
in fact many companies tried to compete with steam opening their own store or publishing in the others that exist in the market, it didnt worked well for many of then.
i dont believe valve have 90% of the sales on pc, but they might have something like 60%.

Quoting: GroganI don't see why Valve would delist games for being sold cheaper elsewhere, that wouldn't help them at all. (obviously they'll get zero sales from those games if they don't sell them). That sounds like bollocks to me.if 90% of your sales happen on steam, would you risk get your game delisted from steam?

so the demand is precise.

Quoting: Jpxethey are starting by games actually played by the people who purchased steam deck+wishlisted games (or games in their library)Quoting: Philadelphus2,500! Only, what, ~55,000 more to go? :grin:I wonder how many of the games actually have players.. There's a lot of asset flips with zero or just a couple of reviews.
I kid, but obviously that's still a good milestone to hear. Wonder how high the number'll be by the time I finally get my order email in Q3?
I did some digging on steamdb
- 528 games have had over 1000 concurrent players in the last 24 hours
- ~4800 games have had over 1000 concurrent players all-time
- ~8500 games have a rating above 80%.
so the demand is precise.

and no, native versions arent nescessary better, proton seems to have an better support at least from the short term and for old games.

Quoting: WorMzyGiven how hit and miss this verification system seems to be, the number is entirely meaningless. What would be a better metric is: how many devs have they convinced to release and maintain native Linux versions of their games? :wink:we already have this number, its called "linux" or "steamOS/linux", sigh.

RUINER, Child of Morta and Persona4 golden changed their status from unsuported.
that means they entered the quee for verification at least twice (first time rated as unsuported) and that some recent proton patch fixed the issues related to then.
valve put an big challenge to then selves:
1) improve wine to support more games and make then easier to install (proton)
2)test all games from steam (63145) to make sure they work perfectly on steam deck, or that they are playable even if they have a few issues like low text size.
3)test then again in case they dont work, test how many times it take to make sure they are perfect after the latest proton patch.
considering that some games require skill or have tons of hours of gameplay that is an massive ammount of work, even using automation.

Quoting: BinogureIs it the engine that doesn't work on an open source operating system?it barely work on windows anyway, imagine the port to linux
I like the known bugs from their release note, almost Linux only:

I'd rather see more post regarding real open source game engines such as Godot Engine than this kind of open source washing engine.
There is a brand new video about Godot Engine 4, that's quite interesting:

mixed feelings on this one.
first comes the "trust in microsoft" issue.
then there is the engine, lumbeyard was struggling to get users, amazon didnt made O3DE because they are an charity or anything like that, they made because they couldnt convice almost anyone to use their engine.
unity receive an massive adoption from indies, unreal had the features that AAA needed.
now unity is trying to enter the AAA space while unreal is trying to enter the indie one, while sustain their position among the big ones.
on the open source side, we have godot, that is making a lot of sucess and growing quickly but in terms of development and in terms of users, due to an excelent workflow, licence, among other things.
lumbeyard was lost without an niche to fill, it helps nothing that even installing the engine seems to be troublesome (games from scratch had a lot of issues with it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h27MOJjoApM [External Link]
now that amazon transformed lumbeyard into this thing, managed by the linux foundation, i wish then success, but at the same time, i wish they dont take too much the spotlight from the likes of godot (aka that the volunteers who contribute to godot dont change their minds for this instead)
honestly i think they might be losing time on this one, at the same time, their render probably have an better chance to compete against unreal than godot one.

Steam Deck updates out for Stable and Beta, better Refresh Rate Switching

who would guess that reducing the refresh rate would be one of the most hyped features...
and that is only possible when you control the display, that sort of thing wont work on generic hardware, because some monitors may not support it, so its perfect for an handheld.
