either other stores support linux/work on it flawless, or every steam deck owner will purchase more games on steam and less in other stores.
in the first case he get ride of windows dependence, in the second case he make tons of money.

Quoting: slaapliedjeThis kind of goes with the idea that Gabe just wants a great gaming hardware device, rather than 'we want a piece of hardware that is tied to Steam for more $$$.'its a win win situation for him.

Quoting: Solitary, but you do know that you can play games that are not yet rated, right?of course i know this, i was complaining about protonDB not being realible before this rating was a thing.

windows can hot-swap drivers, linux cant AFAIK.
that is quite usefull because you can use the best driver for each game or even make an driver specifically for an single game, and that do happen automatically without the user noticing.
i dont think that feature will apply to the deck, but it cant be under estimated.
nor can not having an translation layer.

Quoting: Cerberonthere is an advantage on windows, at least on general hardware:Quoting: spacemonkeyI am curious about the performance difference. But no matter the results, I will never ever install Windows.Well a lot of games already run better on Linux, and given how vale should be able to optimize the OS specifically for the hardware and that windows will not be so optimized I would be surprised if windows is noticeably faster at anything.

Quoting: dindonValve is providing an official way to install Windows as well as put SteamOS back. The dual-boot wizard seems to also be in the work. Hopefully Windows users will also get the new SteamOS interface on Windows as a Big Picture mode replacement. That's plenty of support.any steam client can run the new interface its just a matter of tweak a few config files, people already figured out how.

oh, its an old game, no one play it anymore.
yeah, it wasnt so old back then ¬¬
"not even linux users play it"
maybe we would if it runs.
sigh, i understand the valve side, but its frustrating to wait so long for something to work, only to realize it was in vain.

Quoting: SolitaryLinux gamers aren't that different from other people. If some game is so dead that nobody has been playing it then I doubt there is any significant number of Linux gamers waiting for it...you wait 10 years to play an game, then the argument become:

Quoting: SolitaryRealistically, there is no rush to cover entire catalogue, because not all games are being actually played or have been played by any significant number of gamers in recent time (especially if those games are not a good fit for Deck anyways). Nobody really waits for the Deck rating of the Asset Flip #345: The Sequel. If Valve rates all games that cover 95% (or more) of all Steam users/owners they are good as finished and that might not be such a big task, the rest they can slowly do over the years or just change the methodology by then.i agree that assetflips dont make a difference, but there is a bunch of high quality games that people dont play anymore because they already got tired of the countless hours playing it or moved to sequels
The number of games is inflated, let's be honest.
