Quoting: cazzooTo answer this one, Playnite is kind of the same, but dedicated to Windows AFAIK. Lutris goes even further, allowing to play windows games in linux leveraging Wine builds. There are some contributors helping to keep updated version of wine fully compatible with Lutris, embeding all latest changes from Proton, Proton GE and Wine.
I always thought Lutris just used various versions of Wine, like PlayOnLinux does, and then the community tweaks installer scripts so that installs work correctly. Last I checked they didn't use Proton at all.
They do however, you can use proton with Lutris fine. Proton-GE has been compiled for both Steam and Luris use. Just a case of installing the relevant runner that you need.

Edit:

This is my build of WINE based on/forked from the most recent bleeding-edge proton experimental wine repo. This is meant to be used with non-steam games outside of Steam.

Egosoft continuing showing their commitment to their fans
And to Linux!
A great game and I will surely jump in again, as there is so much left to do in my universe.
I just don't seem to be able to get into it like I did with X3:reunion

No clue why as X3 had me hooked for possibly 1000s of hours

Native FTW !
Native games break even more often or lag way behind their Windows counterparts or don't have cross-play.

No thanks.

Proton may not be perfect but it caused way less headaches at least in my experience, and saved me a ton of time (which I was able to spend playing instead of fixing)
As said in a earlier post, I've had the exact opposite experience.

It's not a WINE/Proton problem, it's a Valve problem. :dizzy:
Was it valve that has patched Apex ?

Am guessing not, so how is it valves fault/problem ? It's a problem now as it's allegedly deck verified.

About 90% of Linux native games are an abandoned buggy mess that work far better if you force them to play through Proton.
Luckily not had that issue, I have had not updated to coincide with the windows version.

Thats down to the steam machines falling on it's arse so most companies gave up on Linux. I was hoping that may change with the deck but it will depend on how well it sells ect.

Native games aren't invulnerable to breaking, I've written my fair share of articles on exactly that.
Extremely less prone though unlike windows games played through Proton
