Epic Games CEO says a clear No to Fortnite on Steam Deck
9 Feb 2022 at 5:29 pm UTC

Quoting: slaapliedjeJust a 'eac-dkms' package? :P Granted that would likely violate something, and people generally don't like seeing that their kernel is tainted with some non-GPL code :P
That way at least people/users have a choice to use it or not!

Either way, those that wanted a steam deck might actually not bother if things like fornite have no hope of being playable or, THose that do purchase one and just put windows 10 in it!

We lose in the end as still no incentive for the bigger fish to support Linux/Deck !

^^^This soooooo much!!!!^^^

If the first batch don't nail it in one hit with the users/press the steam deck will fall flat on it's arse ! Irrelevant of what distro/DE/ or whatever they use. How good it becomes at a later date will not matter.

This is where I feel proton could be the achilles heal if Valve are not completely on it!

I am hoping that game devs at least do native ports targeted/optimized at the deck as if it works on the deck it's a safe bet that other distros/hardware will work fine too.

Quoting: gradyvuckovicHope Nate and the team are ready for the onslaught they're going to receive when the Deck starts shipping. Lots of people who have never used Linux, KDE, Discover, Dolphin, Kate, etc, are going to be using their software for the first time, and probably vocal on their feedback of what they like and don't like. It's going to be a lot to digest but should be interesting none the less.
Most will never see it, all they will see is Steam's front end.

Us on the other hand will immediately dig in to it and see how to break tweak it :tongue:

System76 releases the Kudu featuring AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX

Quoting: slaapliedjePhones can have that resolution because... why not? But I bet most people don't run them at the high resolution as it eats battery.
Can't say I've come across a phone thats not using the default res of the screen they have nor a way to change it to be honest.

Realy? No radeon card option !

Also not the prettiest design of lappy. Daft price tag to boot

Quake II RTX 1.6.0 adds AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)

Quake II RTX won't start:
********************
FATAL: No ray tracing capable GPU found.
********************

I have an AMD Radeon 6900XT and this works:
$ vulkaninfo
What am I missing here?
I was able to launch the game. First of all, I updated Mesa to 21.3.4 (raytracing support is relatively new, so better to have up to date Mesa, not sure if I should update kernel too). Next I added RADV_PERFTEST=rt %command% to the games launch options.

That was the good news. I get 10 FPS and graphics are very buggy. There's just few big triangles and some garbage.

Not that the vulkaninfo output shows lot of raytracing related extensions:
VkPhysicalDeviceRayTracingPipelineFeaturesKHR:
----------------------------------------------
        rayTracingPipeline                                    = true
        rayTracingPipelineShaderGroupHandleCaptureReplay      = false
        rayTracingPipelineShaderGroupHandleCaptureReplayMixed = false
        rayTracingPipelineTraceRaysIndirect                   = false
        rayTraversalPrimitiveCulling                          = false
Think you need to use the prop vulkan driver for full support but dont quote me on that

Don't know why but every time I see Quake II RTX reminds of the phrase " Mutton dressed as Lamb" :wink:

Quoting: GustyGhostNo binary is offered to host a server and, in my book, if you can't run it on bare metal you can't run "your own server". I would be much more inclined to call Discord's instances more appropriately as chatrooms.
My point was that for 99.9% of gamers/Clans it's far easier thus why it's so popular.

Quoting: GustyGhostI like it's simplicity and self-hostability
Just their is the other reason as to why Discord is preferred, Most people don't have a home server. Yes you can use a RPI but I think many forget that most don't have the knowledge or where for all to set up murmur let alone a server.

People forget, 25 odd years ago we would have been seen as super geeks in the eyes of most.

Quoting: pete910Ah, the discord streaming thingy, Must admit when I've tried it it's always been a bit meh . Not a Nitro member though so low res only.
I don't have nitro either but sometimes use the standard thing to show someone something.
The only issue I have is that it's such a crap res/bit rate, don't really recall if the audio worked for me or not in the past. Having said that, I've not used more than a handful of times. Even my windows mates don't do it that often due to issues.

I just stick to OBS via twitch or YT, Shame as the discord streaming can be handy on occasion.

Quoting: midget_3111it doesn't use NVENC when capturing, so if you're using an Nvidia GPU and try to screenshare it causes everything to stutter.
Get an AMD card for that OSS goodness :tongue:
I wish I could afford one 😭
Was Lucky, Got mine from AMD last Feb foor £600. Which i think even thats over priced

The prices that the AIB's/E-Tailers are charging are just ridiculous, Should all be investigated for profiteering and fined double what their earnings was for the year!
