Descent 3 open source project gets a first release

I was able to build and run in Linux per the instructions in the source. Cutscenes and most controls work.

Need to work on tweaking the settings file to fix gamepad joystick axes (otherwise it always auto-detects z-axis when trying to change the joystick control settings). The control was much more smooth than running Windows version in wine. I wonder if there is a way to change shortcut keys for game save and load, since Alt plus function keys are usually defined for the window manager, and I sometimes accidentally press Alt+F4 when trying to load the game and completely closes the game.

I usually run games in windowed-mode, so '-w' command-line option was useful.

The game saves are not compatible with Windows version, but didn't expect it to work anyway, and I didn't progress much in wine due to joystick control issues, so not much loss. At least the player profile had no issue being detected and loaded.

Marathon 2 a classic FPS originally from Destiny developer Bungie now on Steam

I'd finished all the trilogy. You can download and build from source and download the game data since they are now free. No need to wait for Steam.

It's unfortunate that Microsoft bought Bungie and discontinued Halo development for Mac, which could have helped with Linux port of Halo. At least Halo runs quite well in wine, although I've heard subsequent versions Halo 2 and beyond cannot be run in wine or even run properly in MS Windows, only in Xbox.

Wine 8.0 is out now with major compatibility improvements

Looking forward to testing wine 8.0 and beyond.

I've been making small but significant progress in making roughly 95% of my games work flawlessly in Linux so far, and I hope this is another big milestone toward my goal: 100% of my games working in Linux (my expectation is by the end of the year 2024 as long as I don't buy any more non-Linux-native games).

Most problematic are cutscenes blackscreen hang, AntiCheat, and empty font rendering.

What I want to see in 2023 for Linux, Gaming, Steam Deck and more

I want more Linux native games. Most games I own should be easy to port to Linux (based on Unity, Unreal, multi-platform game engines, etc.) and developers/publishers are being very lazy (or too much resource unnecessarily wasted on one single platform?).

They should develop for Linux first, then start porting to Windows and whatnot. That would make development much faster and less buggy, saving resources.

Access your Amazon Prime Gaming library on Linux with the Nile Project

I'm still waiting for the day when Amazon Games provides Linux-native games.

I got Whispering Willows this month from Amazon Games, but it only provides windows version, even though the game has native Linux version. I'm still debating whether to throw money at Steam for a license I already have just to get Linux version.

While not on Linux officially, Far Cry New Dawn seems to work amazingly well on Linux

I'd rather wait for Linux port than purchase Windows version, however long that takes. No reason to give developers a leeway to not focus on Linux port.

Steam Play passes six thousand Windows games playable on Linux, according to ProtonDB

error while loading shared libraries: libsteam_api.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Sounds like you didn't install all the necessary libraries from the repo. That shared library should be in the sub-directory of the Steam game. Try using a command line terminal to start the game (usually there is a script start.sh) after running the steam client, and that should show any relevant error messages about missing libraries.
Also make sure all the symlinks in steam client directory are not broken, per https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/5101 [External Link]

The updated release of 'Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive' that has Linux support is now on GOG
31 Aug 2018 at 6:26 am UTC

I had bought the Windows version from Gog.com. Now gog provides Linux version for free for those who already purchased for Windows. I promptly removed the Windows version that I was running in wine and installed the Linux version, and it works much smoother. No more slow interface or graphic glitches.

Daedalic's Edna & Harvey: Harvey's New Eyes now available for Linux

I hope GoG provides the Linux version in their game library too. I have this one in Windows version from GoG, and it is running under wine.

It would be really fantastic if Daedalic allows GoG Connect to provide this Linux version from Steam to be downloaded for GoG purchasers.

RuneScape Linux-native NXT client available to pre-load, they also have a trailer

Quoting: neowiz73here is a .deb download link..this client is available in the AUR for Arch users.

I tried to log in, but when i try to type in the login or the password field I get no response from any sort of input from my keyboard.
I downloaded and extracted the deb file and installed in Fedora 23, and it works quite well, except a little slow compared to Java client running under OpenJDK. I probably should configure to low video settings.
