EDIT:
Technically, Linux is more gaming capable than Mac and you can build a system from parts.

Quoting: CyrilWow, what a day. :huh:For some time now we have been getting ports that the Mac users don't, a few examples are Ruiner and Vaporum. Hopefully devs will continue to see that although small, there's profit to be made in Linux, not to forget the great improvements it made on the desktop.
With this news, we'll see soon or later what devs will continue to support us (Vulkan move) and what devs won't.
It might be interesting... support Linux because it can brings more customers or because It's a Free/Libre OS?
I'm a bit afraid that we can loose some devs/porters. So wait & see...

Given that Doom already runs on Vulkan and id Software are no strangers to Linux I think they could do the port themselves.

Quoting: yar4e396.18.0 is very bad choice actually! This version have performance regressions with DXVK. Try latest version from here: https://developer.nvidia.com/vulkan-driver [External Link]Thanks for the link, it may help with other games but with this one won't budge. So far the driver is working fine with everything else.

Quoting: yar4eYou use very old NVIDIA driver. This may be the reason of bad performance. For DXVK 394.24.02 is recommended.I'm hesitant about Beta drivers but I went ahead and tried it, no changes for this game.

So, outside of Witcher 3 any other DX11 game I own, already has a native Linux version available. I gave Vaporum a little test to see how it fares compared to the native version.
The 3 tests were run all in the same starting area using the same settings:
I kinda expected the better performance from the native version, however I'm surprised to see almost double the FPS compared to dxvk. On the other hand dxvk performs much better than OpenGL DX11, on the latter it would occasionally drop down to 13-17 FPS and it performs slower overall.

I play a few online games myself with Wine, namely Guild Wars 2 and Path of Exile and for some time also Neverwinter, never got any bans in almost 4 years.

Quoting: GuestIs DXVK safe yet on legit steam games btw? I really want to try it on games like GTAV but don't want to risk a ban from using it, for now I plan on doing all my testing outside of SteamFor offline games you can use anything you want, no one will stop you. As for online play it is mostly safe, there were some accidents [External Link] in the past regarding people getting banned for using Wine however such issues are really one in 2 million so to say and I haven't heard anything about them in recent times.

The development speed of Wine has surely skyrocketed in just a couple of years, combined with dxvk it has become a great solution for people who want to switch to Linux without sacrificing their fav games.
Looks like Nightdive Studios enhanced version of 'Turok' might be coming to Linux (update: it's out!)
