Another game also available on GOG but without the native Linux-version. Just like "Age of Wonders 3" and I call the developers for this game just liars because they used the arrogance to say it would be very difficult for them releasing a DRM-free game for Linux because of the Steam-framework. Want to laugh? Just the same comments came from the "Victor Vran"-team. :(

Quoting: GuestAny word about GOG's Linux version?
I hope they remember that this was also planned but it seems they have forgotten about GOG for now?

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

Are the games even worth this discussion? I don't think so. Most of the games from Electronic Arts are just repeated content perhabs with polished graphics, most of the time even that missing. So why discussing about it? The older games are all working very well using Wine. The other ones are not worth to be mentioned because every year again there are the same games from this company, nothing more or nothing less. :)

Saints Row 2 Looks Like It's Coming To Linux

Quoting: acidflareSaints Row 2 + 3, Darksiders 1 + 2 and Metro: Last Light Redux are all now on gog have been since may 11, 2015. Source - http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/05/11/saints-row-drm-free-gog/ [External Link]
I know: Bought them because Darksiders run very good with WINE and the hope is there that GOG gets the license for the Linux-versions of the other ones. But until now we have the same problem as always: GOG is trying and some publishers just ignore this. Happened yesterday again with Dungeons 2: There is a native Linux-version and the game is released only for Windows and Mac. I've contacted GOG and they've told me that they are working hard on getting also the permissions to release for Linux and I believe them. But the problem is as always the publishers and their will supporting DRM-free releases. Perhabs there is happening a wonder because I've also never believed having Fallout again on GOG and for now Bethesda is there also with Doom. :)

Quoting: liamdaweMany of us, like me, find Steam to be the most useful out of any store. The Steam client community features, auto updates etc. Can't get that on any other store.
No problem with that. But the major conflict is how the distribution of software using this kind of platform works: Buying and using means also giving up some ballot paper for every purchase. Everything afterwards is nothing more of interest for the companies and with every purchase there is a decision done through the majority of users, so the minority has to live with that. And from my point of view this also means giving up the freedom of Linux.. It is funny that some users here have problems with usage of proprietary blobs from NVidia and then giving this canticle on another proprietary toolset. :) And the final words are as always in such discussions: "I have no problem with not owning the software." Then let me ask: What is the meaning of Linux? Just another operating-system? Or some kind of idealistic view? For me the last one as I don't want to owned by some platform and the ruleset coming up with: My rules, my decisions. I don't want to blame anybody using Steam but it should always be clear what this platform stands for and what is behind it.

Just as a side note: I know about the Facebook-icon under my profile, but this is in fact my profile on Diaspora. As I said: Everybody can decide in his own. ;)

Nice to hear about, but this is only with DRM again. So what is the profit playing the game and having a proprietary client running in the background? Hope the versions for Linux are also available on GOG for example otherwise they can keep it. DRM, no buy from my side and I don't get it why there is so much excitement about a DRM-release on Steam. :)

Quoting: wolfyrionI dont understand this, why they revive DOS Games?I dont really get it , the same goes with Steam....
You think the new generation will play any of these retro games?? I dont think so..
Why paying for these games?
The answer is very easy: Because there is no difference within game mechanics at all. Most games today are only the newest generation of some mechanics invented those days. To get a concrete value for what doing today it is very helpful checking the past. Perhaps you don't like old games, but there are many people wanting to watch back. Also there were minor problems those days: No forced online check, no DRM, nothing to worry about just the game and much fun with it. These games might be old, they might be retro, but they are even better than just a cheap copy with modern graphics because they are the original. :)

Quoting: neowiz73yeah this is one of those hard lessons for the current status of Linux. if there isn't at least a beta version available to play then don't bother. these companies only care about the bottom line especially when it is a big company involved somehow.
I could care less about anything Mojang ever does. As it stands they are heavily in bed with MS at this point.
Just no wondering: Microsoft is the mother company of Mojang at all. But the name and trademark "Minecraft" has more than enough followers at all. I even like the older versions but decided just to use my backup version when Mojang implemented the forced account-usage. And now with Microsoft on board the company and game is just dead for me!

Quoting: neowiz73on a side note, i'm still waiting on my linux version of Divinity: Original sin that was promised at the Kickstarter. So even kickstarter projects need to be taken with a heavy grain of salt.
I think we get the Linux-version in the near future. I'm also waiting for this! :)

Is this really surprising? Microsoft bought Mojang. It was only a matter of time when titles and focus reduced. And it will go on being therefore just Windows native! :)

GOG Have Supported Linux For Just Over A Year, Announce New Linux Installer System
11 Aug 2015 at 7:52 pm UTC Likes: 1

Seriously: Why is there no possibility having just a choice? Why not keeping the zipped packages? I want my games also working with Ubuntu 12.04 or other distributions. Now there is more work for me extracting the data-files. I want my own structure and not "pretty icons" added automatically. My system, my rules!

EDIT: Phew, rage stopped. A simple UNZIP-command is accepted after researching. I was afraid the binary payload is not accessible. :-)

So it is possible to use the console with "unzip gog_primordia_2.0.0.2.sh". Hope GOG keeps it this simple!

@mrdeathjr: Did you have a test for Prototype? The last try I gave in was not the best I got only ugly artifacts when animation for characters was used. Would like to play the game also on Linux. Perhaps the vertex blending also solves this one? Or is there a special trick for Prototype to be used?
