Quoting: metro2033fanboySave to an external storage? What? is it 1991 again? lmao!
Ah I get it: You think your way is the only one right, correct? And you take your hands on the ears when there is some criticism you just don't want to hear. Yes: I'm saving data to external storage-systems - just also using my own NAS within local network and no cloud-storage. But I think we have finished our little discussion here, so thanks for this short review. :)

Quoting: metro2033fanboyIm reaching 23 days running STEAM in offline mode. No game asking to loging in Online mode.

Both on windows and openSUSE STEAM versions.

Windows Games: Witcher 3, Alien Isolation, Deus Ex Human, Fallout New Vegas, Hitman Absolution... and a bunch of AAA games.

GOG yet has not worthy features to even install it!

STEAM FTW! [956 GAMES]
Uh that's nice. So let me just have closer look: Okay, for me that's about 650 games on GOG within my library. Could you give me a short explanation what the matter of these numbers and comparisons should be when finished? Your decision was made clear, made a point so far. And what are the worthy features for GOG to install? You're referring the client named "GOG Galaxy", correct? But therefore you just ignore that there are standalone packages and installers to be downloaded. Saved them to an external storage or on a CD / DVD they can be used everywhere. Worthy to install? What about? Chat-Client included in STEAM? Cloud-Savegames included in STEAM? Archievments included in STEAM? Oh come on: Some features are done better without further problems with specialized applications like Pidgin or something else. Don't get me wrong: This is your own decision which platform to support. But it doesn't get better when the customers only accept what is done right before his very own nose. They could decide on their own and could be creative with the market rules. For me GOG is just also a very idealistic way to purchase games, either new or old. And it should stay this way!

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic II Released For Linux, With Preview Port Report

Quoting: thelimeydragonBut not every game on Steam has "DRM". I have a bunch of games on Steam that have no DRM at all... I can copy the game data and then just run it anywhere I want (if I desired). I can't say whether the Linux port of KNOTOR II has DRM or not, however the idea that every game on Steam is locked into some form of DRM is wrong.
That is the main argument which I'm hearing in every discussion and it doesn't make the whole platform better at all. It is correct: Not every game has the same DRM or even the boundaries to the platform itself. But even to download the data you need the client and this is enough for me to deny a purchase. :) Even the argument of DRM is not correct or to global at all. For me the complete handling is enough. My own decision how to download, where to download, saving the data and in which way to install.

It is a purchase from my side when there is a DRM-free release on GOG or comparable. The posting is just a "We are working on it!". When there is no interest on the side of distributors there is no further chance getting this DRM-free. So I'll stay with my WINE-installation until there is a reaction. :) I'm not going to support a proprietary DRM-platform.

Interesting but I'll wait which plattform is chosen for this "new port". Another release only on STEAM is just a non-reaction for me. A release also on GOG would be perfect regarding "Knights of the old Republic 2". So I just can't understand why everyone is happy when something new is released only on one platform with DRM. But it's only my personal opinion - it won't help Linux in common from my point of view using a proprietary kind of nonsense like STEAM. :)

Opinion: Can Linux Be A Viable Gaming Platform? Thoughts From A Sympathetic Game Developer
6 Jul 2015 at 8:03 pm UTC Likes: 2

From my point of view a game developed only for "Ubuntu" or "SteamOS" is not the way to go. In fact it is no problem at all to release a working application for more than only one or two platforms. So the user should be capable of knowledge about the platform he / she is using. Only some basic knowledge and the motivation to ask questions at the right places, also having some basic interest about finding information on their own at a concrete point. There is no need for some kind of standardization or certification. What do you want to reach? Another Microsoft, this time only with the penguin on it? No thanks!

For me Linux and Open-Source is about the freedom to choose and not to be regulated by another ruleset and the dictate of some companies / groups which say this has to be the way of some kind of standard.

Two Worlds II Action RPG Will Apparently Still Be Ported To Linux
10 May 2015 at 2:01 pm UTC

Just to mention: The german IT-portal Golem.de published an article on April the 8th saying that Reality Pump is quitting (http://www.golem.de/news/aus-fuer-reality-pump-entwicklerstudio-von-two-worlds-2-gibt-auf-1505-113967.html). I mean there could be a port but this would be done after the company has closed its doors forever?

That's the way to go. :)
