Racing game 'DRAG' with impressive visuals enters Early Access on August 11

Quoting: PatolaWho cares about visuals. Graphics don't matter, it could be just as good if it were a Pixel Graphics game. Right?
You probably think you have a point? I don't think you do.

I enjoy games with pixel graphics. And some games with no graphics at all. But racing sims like DRAG are better off striving for realism and immersion.

It's perfectly possible to be a fan of more than one style of game. If you are not, that's fine.
Here here. Hear, hear.

I am often impressed by many different styles of games, from terminal stuff like Arcane Fortune to DRAG. There's no need to limit yourself based on graphics but it absolutely doesn't stop someone (me) being impressed by the visual style and the choices made for a particular title.

The thing is, I am just as excited for DRAG as I am for art of rally and they're two totally different styles of racing game.

Looks like the recent upwards trend of the Linux market share has calmed down

Quoting: 3zekielquite a few of the mainstream tech medias are now regularly talking about proton/lutris & co
Well, hopefully a few of their readers will continue to point out GOL is here and covers Linux all the time ;)

Quoting: 3zekielIt's very strange, when I looked at netmarketshare on saturday, it was well above 4.5% and MacOS had a big drop, was there some kind of bug they fixed manually?
Not sure but the Steam Survey sometimes does it too, I assume some sort of background processing still going on and it eventually sorts itself out.

Valve gets another developer to work on Linux graphics drivers, starting with AMD RADV

Quoting: Purple Library GuyIn current actuality, that's true. However, Wine and even Proton itself are open source. Valve couldn't stop some other portal if they wanted to offer Proton for their Linux users. Maybe if we had a bigger market share, they even would. So it's not a theoretical barrier, it's just that nobody else feels like stepping up.
If we got enough market share where that would make sense, you would hope that developers would support Linux proper by then though and not rely on a compatibility layer. That's the ideal scenario anyway but we're a long way off of course.

Quoting: oldrocker99One developer did say that it was easier for him to ensure Proton compatibility than to create a Linux version of his game, FWIW.
Of course it is, because for developers they end up doing nothing to get those Linux sales thanks to Proton. However, it also entirely takes it out of their hands and then they're even more dependent on Valve for everything. Being realistic there's no way they're going to dive into Wine code to fix problems themselves when they come up. Since they're also then not likely to look into packaging for Linux at all, it also locks Linux to Steam. For me, I'm not biased towards any store but I can see why having everything in one place ends up as a bad idea.

Quoting: FrawoNot even to mention that Proton often outperforms native Linux ports, like with Dying Light or Borderlands 2 (at least for me).
Well, old OpenGL ports are of course going to run slower than a constantly updated Vulkan layer. A good modern port with some time spent on it is another matter.

Quench that weekend thirst with the release of Wine 5.14

Quoting: AdutchmanWhy is Godot getting more support? Isn't it already on Linux?
Godot is well supported on Linux. The point of Wine though, is to eventually be able to run everything. Even stuff already on Linux, as it can help fix bugs elsewhere.

Changing your country on Steam has been made harder to battle VPNs

Quoting: frykThats strange, I don't think this is that new.
Neither do I. My family lives in another country that crosses the Steam pricing region. When I was buying a game while visiting, Steam showed me a warning, and asked to confirm which country I actually live in. That was a few years ago.
The difference is now, it's being properly enforced. Before they had things like temporary country-change cooldowns, now it won't let you do anything until you make a purchase with something registered in that country.

Quoting: Nick_AvemLooks pretty neat. Does anyone know whether it is using Vulkan or OpenGl?
Vulkan, at least from the GOG version, not tested the Steam build.

Quoting: damarrinI like how every time a VN comes along Liam says he's not into them but this one is great.
Honestly, it really is a genre I generally shy away from because it's just not my thing. I prefer more interactive moving experiences. However, at times something interesting like this comes along :)

Quoting: GermainZIf it's not too much work, I've always liked it when Linux-native titles were also in bold as that makes it easy to check the bundle at a glance.
Sure, done.
