That's something more companies could do. But hey, I think a whole year has passed since Valve announced they were working to get EAC working on Proton, am I right?

Getting EAC working with Proton/Wine is not an easy or quick task, it's still going to take a long time to get it right from what I understand. Work is ongoing though. Proton 4.11-1 [External Link] released back in July did specifically note in the changelog about it too:

Many Wine modules are now built as Windows PE files instead of Linux libraries. As work in this area progresses, this will eventually help some DRM and anti-cheat systems. If you build Proton locally, you will likely need to re-create the Vagrant VM to build PE files.

From Psyonix, they've chosen their words carefully and said for now, until it hits EGC it will remain as is on steam, and afterwards anyone who owns it will still be able to play it on steam. Well anyway, I guess we'll see when the time comes.

I said about this before, but I will say it again: I fully suspect their wording is because it will be going free to play, which is why they're saying it will be supported.

Wine had no problem with easy anticheat before Epic bought it and ended development of the Linux version.

This isn't a problem that Wine needs to fix, it's entirely on Epic.

People love to repeat this. EAC has never actually worked in Wine. Any time it did previously, was likely when EAC wasn't fully online. I've spoken to developers on this before. It has nothing to do with Epic buying EAC, don't spread it.

I agree there are issues surrounding it like no backups and so on, all of which I've written about before. However, I also believe that for Linux gamers especially, this will be a big boon for multiplayer-only titles like Destiny 2.
