Quoting: TuxeeAnd I don't care for Fortnite in the slightest. I'm waaaaay to mature for that crap.
Guess I'm immature then for wanting to play it on both my desktop Linux and Steam Deck. Okay then.

Quoting: TactikalKittyHonest Question: Why would you not use anything other than the Proton Experimental? Is there any real world use case that I would want to use the stable or and older proton version vs the up to date Experimental?
Adding to what CatKiller said, Proton Experimental often comes with its own regressions that break things. It's a constant moving thing, so telling people to run x game on Proton Experimental may work one day, break the next week and so on. Generally, you want to tell people it runs with a specific Proton version like 8, 9 or whatever so people have a set point where it works and should actually stay working.

Quoting: MekaDragonIn my head the development order is Proton Hotfix -> Proton Experimental -> Opting in a release candidate in a stable Proton version -> Stable Proton version.
Pretty much yes. As the article states, these changes were previously in Hotfix and Experimental, and now they're about to roll out to the main Proton version.

Quoting: officerniceI wonder how long Feral will exist. Proton more or less took away their porting job.
They do other platforms that are far more lucrative for them including Android, iOS, Switch, macOS and Meta Quest.

Update 17/08/24, 9:00 UTC: Proton Hotfix was updated with the needed fix to get it working. Valve has set this by default for it so you should uncheck any forced compatibility options you have set. Nice to see Valve react so quickly once again.

I'm still on the stable branch, on my LCD Steam Deck... Am I missing a lot?
It first landed into Preview back in early May.

Quoting: JarmerI too bounced off the earlier game(s), but they always have such a rabid fanbase. I am keeping my eye on this one and will definitely give it a try when it comes out.

For proton support, it should be good. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl has a platinum rating on protondb, so that's at least good news.
I don't think any previous game rating matters, they're all old and this is properly next-gen, completely different games.

You can take the chance at 3 games for £4.99 and may end up with some top releases like Manor Lords, V Rising, Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR'S CUT and others.
But likely you won't. Fanatical has great deals, but let's not promote gambling, please.
You are free not to use it, i’m just reporting what is there, and we’ve had plenty of comments in the past with people saying it’s good so 🤷‍♂️
