Quoting: liamdaweHave they actually confirmed this anywhere? Mir wasn't mentioned in the initial post from Mark.
Ars Technica says that Canonical Community Manager Michael Hall confirmed it to them:
https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/04/ubuntu-unity-is-dead-desktop-will-switch-back-to-gnome-next-year/ [External Link]
I've been shown a different log in IRC now https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2017/04/07/%23snappy.html [External Link] where Mir will stay for IoT devices.

Quoting: STiATThough, in this article, you missed out the most important fact for Linux Gaming: Mir is going away. They confirmed that they'll be switching to Gnome+Wayland, abdoning Mir and Unity. That is the best thing about the news - we finally get rid of the split graphics stack in a critical path.

Quoting: NovenTheHeroI wish we could set the default behavior for each class of ships, IE how Battleships will sit back and fire from max range. I want to be able to make destroyers do the same thing.
Bingo. That's the sort of thing I would expect, even simple things like that.

Quoting: Geppeto35About Serious sam, why steam doesn't mention it works for linux? Does it ?
As mentioned in other posts, they give you access to Fusion. Fusion is the only engine that supports Linux for the First and Second Encounter games.
Will it count as a Linux sale?
People need to not put so much thought into that, people get bogged down with it. This doesn't matter unless it's an external port, which Serious Sam is not.
Well, I'd say that it's about more than where the money goes. To me, it's also about showing that the Linux audience is indeed there.
Of course, which is always shown on Steam statistics, this only ever matter for external porters getting paid.

I know for a fact developers can see Linux sales even without a Linux version. I've been told this by several developers now.

through steam? Ok, thanks Liam ^^

... I still not understand what is "fusion": a launcher, an engine, or something I don't mind 'cause it's the developer code name to say 'it works on linux and cie'?
I will buy this evening and see ^^
ty again Liam
Fusion is an updated engine for all of their games. You load Fusion, then pick say The First Encounter or The Second Encounter.

EVERSPACE still dealing with Unreal Engine bugs, possible workaround found for Linux

Quoting: EhvisWhat surprises me is that they have a Mac version available. With OpenGL being much better on Linux, it's not very likely that it is a problem with Unreal OpenGL support. Makes you wonder what exactly causes this problem.
Because there is no problem , Linux version is left for far last , just find excuses.
First was a "translucent materials" , second Nvidia driver(o'rly , what about AMD/Mesa..) , third waiting answer from Epix. And 6 months nobody found this-"Try to use "Surface ForwardShading" under Material Properties-> Translucency -> Lighting Mode".
Ieep they working hard on Linux , believe me :).
Sorry for black view , I support this game in kickstarter , but after these silly excuses i do not believe there will be Linux version.
Engine issues are not excuses. You're choosing a very bleak view to stick to.

They've been openly communicating about the issues and now someone pointed them to a possible workaround. It's a workaround that as quoted, isn't actually a final solution.

Coders don't know everything, anything can be overlooked.

Liam, please let us know if/when Everspace sees a linux release, as it will be an instant purchase from me.
Of course, excited by this one myself.
