Very cool! I'm looking forward to playing Core Keeper on Deck, last I heard it wasn't quite well optimized enough to make it a great experience. Can anyone speak to that?

Quoting: cookiEoverdoseI'd like to see an easy way to set up Deck UI grid, background, logo and icon images for added non-steam games or flatpak apps. https://www.steamgriddb.com [External Link] could be a source. Did someone try SGDBoop?SDGBoop is pretty great if you don't have a large library, because you do still have to go through manually 1 game at a time. I used a batch tool to fix all the artwork I didn't have - many games didn't update to the new grid style and it is a little irksome.
I ended up using this tool here [External Link] and it was actually quite easy.
Some tips:
- After extracting the tool, delete the "overlays by category" folder unless you want them.
- Grab an api key from www.steamgriddb.com - you have to be logged in to do this, which you can do with your steam account. After you login, click on your account name (top right), preferences, then API.
- Go into the directory you extracted the tool into and use a command something like this:
sudo ./steamgrid -steamdir /home/deck/.steam/steam -nonsteamonly --steamgriddb 123h2u3i12u31i --onlymissingartworkBut, replace that string after --steamgriddb with your own API key. Those flags declare where the steam library is, where to get the artwork from (steamgriddb), dictate to collect art for only non-steam games, and only for those games with missing art.
- Restart Steam to see the changes. Rerun this command in the future if you acquire more games which need art. Super easy!

Quoting: EikeI need to make a confession. I bought a Steam Deck just because I found it cool, without an actual use case for it. Yesterday, sitting in the bed playing "Justin Wack and the Big Time Hack" [External Link], I found that I do have a use case. :)Thanks for pointing out this game! This genre is dear to my heart.

This is only potentially useful for people relying on their intel CPU chip's integrated graphics, correct? No benefit for anyone using AMD or NVIDIA.

Quoting: MayeulCI wonder if the demand is going to keep up? How much of a marketshare it's going to reach?Seeing how they are just beginning to release into new markets, I don't think demand will be a problem.

Quoting: scainePerhaps the most successful game of all time has poor design? Sure, you can make an argument for that, but I'm not going to buy it lol. Also, being able to switch versions is a feature not a bug.Quoting: wit_as_a_riddleI'll give you that. One game. And even then, a launcher that's only actually necessary because the core game design is so poor that you have to juggle versions for mods. So even then, while I agree it's a useful launcher, it's only useful because it's absolutely necessary and I'd STILL prefer that it didn't exist!Quoting: scaineI've never once, ever, in over 1100 games, experienced a launcher which improved a game experience.Minecraft has a useful launcher. That's the only one I know of though. Funny how people make even better ones to replace the one useful launcher I know of.
Valve testing new mobile Steam app with QR codes for sign ins

You know you can dictate what page you land on? It would be nice for you if discussions were one of the options, since it's just a beta, maybe they'll add it.
Did you mean new discussion posts are well hidden or that discussions are well hidden? I'm sure your feedback will be helpful to Valve.

Quoting: EikeIt's very easy to leave the beta, I only have android so for that just go to the Steam app in the Play store and press "leave" under there it says "You're a beta tester".Quoting: wit_as_a_riddleSo, any of you security experts actually try the app? 🤣🤣🤣Well, I tried it after your comment and now I will take a look how to get rid of it again.
Quoting: EikeIt's got severe longer loading times than the old one on my mobile. It shows me lots of crap I don't care for, and what I actually care for, new discussion posts, is a) well hidden, b) hardly set apart from old discussions and c), when I choose a thread with new posts, it loads quite some seconds just to not bring me to the first new item. I'd rather use the web site on my mobile browser than this. That seems like the opposite of my experience, the old app was crap, and the new one is magic. I don't know what kind of phone you have, maybe there's a difference due to that.

"even more open"
Perhaps they are taking a page out of Aya Neo's book and bringing in other software stores? Possibly preloading their clients on SteamOS? Maybe they are even inviting the likes of Epic, Origin, and GOG to create linux clients for this purpose?
Going another route maybe they mean the OS itself will be more open to being installable on other pieces of hardware? I think that is coming as a certainty anyhow, given the words of GDP in that they are "cooperating with Valve" to bring SteamOS to the Win (Lin) Max 2 and the words of Gabe stating, "Our view is, If we’re doing this right, that we’re going to be selling these in millions of units, And it’s clearly going to be establishing a product category that ourselves and other PC manufacturers are going to be able to participate in. And that’s going to have long-term benefits for us. So that’s sort of the frame in which we’re thinking about this."
I still maintain if it was worth it for Valve to subsidize their own hardware, with the main goals being to grow the PC gaming open ecosystem, Steam's market share, and linux gaming viability (wresting PC gaming away from Microsoft control), then it is worth it to them to subsidize other hardware. Bringing the cost down means faster adoption, accelerating the pace towards their goals.
30% from every game is a lot of money to play with, they use a bit of it to help drive adoption of other handhelds or gaming PCs that ship with SteamOS.
