Over 10 years later 7 Days to Die is going to leave Early Access

I understand they're probably under pressure to finally release, and they've got a good base now with the current random world gen being a marked improvement on the previous world gen results with wonky roads and weird town layouts, but it really needs those content extras they've been talking about for ages and which still seem to be a good 2 years away at best. NPC bandits to mix it up a bit alongside the zombies, more events other than the airdrops and very occasional minor horde, and just anything else that makes the world itself feel a bit more alive.
Seeing how long it is before a lot of those core features are out, I think they should have made Steam workshop a significant priority. Mods for 7 Days have played a large part in keeping the community interest and numbers up, and true workshop integration would make that significantly easier for users to manage.

Quoting: foobrewI normally avoid Early Access games but this game...I have 1,028.6 hrs in it. It's basically the game that introduced me to "open world crafting" and I always seem to come back to it. I'm not even really into zombie games but this one somehow ticks all the boxes for me. The crafting system is excellent and much more balanced now than it used to be - long gone are the days of finding an end-game automatic weapon on day one in the trash. Even though I've memorized most of the POI's at this point, it still seems to maintain just enough tension to still be exciting clearing one, especially in the early game. The overall improvements to balance and progression over the last year or two have really improved the game and breathed new life into it. If you haven't picked it up in a while, I'd recommend giving it a shot again. And if you're new to it...I envy you!I agree, it's a good game and we've had a lot of fun in it over the years. However, I think it is in dire need of a content overhaul as once you get over that early food/water hump there's suddenly not a lot to actually do other than grind out getting schematic and skill books. The 7 day event is the only real threat and even that can be dealt with pretty easily once you work out the basics of the zombie pathing.

Quoting: EhvisIt also seems to have issues still. My friend ran a server with EAC enabled. I would experience regular disconnects when opening inventories. I am the sole Linux user in the group and I was the only one affected. He disabled EAC on the server but the issues continued. I then remembered I could disable EAC on the client too, and the issues stopped occurring immediately.Quoting: dubigrasuWhat kind of anticheat is 7DTD using btw?Optional EAC. Optional as in the server decides whether it is used, so public servers generally enable it, but you can run your own without it.

Proton 9.0 now in Beta with improved game compatibility for Steam Deck / Linux

Truly is some fabulous work they've done. I too was an early sceptic and worried it would result in less Linux gaming by having developers shortcut via Proton, degrading the native scene and then having Proton collapse and leave Linux even more barren than before. I'm happy to have been proven wrong.

Quoting: sonic2kkIt's really a testament to how far we've come. A lot of work from so many talented people has brought us to this point. Anyone remember Wine Steam and the workarounds to get it to run, like --no-cef-sandbox? Not to mention the work done on the Mesa graphics drivers side to get games running as good as they do now.I remember when not having the right fonts installed would be an issue

I have had nothing but issues with Snaps. I tried them again recently, with a fresh Ubuntu install, and various applications were just outright broken, as always seems to be the case. Flatpaks worked perfectly and they're my go to choice if a binary isn't available.

I've long loved Paradox games, and have in the past defended their DLC system. But they seem to have more and more bugs with serious ones that must have been evident during QA, and their DLC costs keep rising even as the individual DLCs feel far slimmer. I used to buy Paradox games and DLCs at launch for full price, but now I wait for sales and pick them up cheaper.

Quoting: CheesenessJust to clarify here (for anybody who didn't know, I'm working on this game)I've had this on my wishlist for a while and really looking forward to getting it for my Deck. I loved Freedom Force when I was younger and have been playing that on my Deck. Good luck with the release!

Boardgames suffer the same. There are a raft of Warhammer titles that were produced by Fantasy Flight Games, including ongoing regular release card games, that were all completely cancelled and went out of print purely because Warhammer pulled the licence. There is a good trade in the out of print games as Warhammer stuff is always sought after, and I've done well out of it, but it is ridiculous.
Steam gets overhauled with new overlay, Steam Deck big stable update

Whatever update just came out has killed desktop mode for me. Attempting to access it just reboots my Deck immediately and now it is on verifying installation and has been for ages. Am on stable branch, had an update show up and complete, and was working fine before that.
