No, it's currently in a corner crying. I've been trying to coax it out of a fetal position all day.

My mind isn't either; between Steam, Humble, GoG, Fanatical, and GreenManGaming, I haven't been able to choose for fear of missing a bigger discount. Meaning: I probably should just play what I've got instead.

Quoting: sarmadI know you are just stating your opinion, and I was just telling you that your opinion is wrong. This is a gaming device, not a military equipment in order to think it should be banned on certain countries. People in the west should really quit this mentality of punishing populations for the mistakes of their governments.
Well, the thought is that these (western) countries cannot really do much against some "governments", but unhappy citizens might.
(I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, I don't know.)
I mean, hey, the only place that strategy didn't eventually work was Cuba.

Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan!
When it comes to Asia, aren't we kind of missing an elephant here?
Two, of similar size, actually.
I, for one, will never consider a certain "People's Republic" to be the legitimate government of the beautiful land they currently tyrannize! I won't mention it by name, as I've seen how vindictive their hired script-kiddies can be. Not only that, but I have a family member who was a U.S. Marine stationed there after WW2.

No one should support genocide. I pray for the U's every night.

Yes, I would have preferred that SYS had lived; CKS led a very unstable government that was little better than the current one, but at least it was sort of Democratic! Far better than what they got. Not for nothing, but at least SYS was a decent Cristian (bigamy aside). CKS was a devout but hypocritical one. Both are better than that imbecile currently in power.

That said, I assume most gamers from there aren't very political, so I do feel somewhat upset for them. But then, extremely few use Linux there when so many machines run warez copies of Windows, from what I understand. The deck probably isn't even on their radar.

No excuse for India though. Valve should've released it there, that's an enormous market to miss.
I can assure you that Valve doesn't care, and shouldn't care, about your political point of view, and that the reason they aren't selling in China yet is either logistics or technical related. Just a matter of time before they start selling there too.
Of course they don't! I never said anything about them caring. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers.

I just felt it needed to be said. My opinion isn't worth the price of tea in a certain place!

As my psychology teacher once said: "Opinions are like ***holes. Everyone has one, and generally, no one wants to hear about anyone else's." he was a really great guy.

Proton Hotfix from Valve gets The Witcher 3 next-gen DX12 working on Steam Deck
16 Dec 2022 at 11:54 pm UTC

Finally got some useful info from examining xsession-errors.old after repeating the crash just now (same place, first conversation after the nightmare/tutorial). It was also complaining about gamemode's shared library not being found, so I fixed that with LD_PRELOAD. (I'll test some more without gamemode in a bit.)

Followed by my DE crashing and the aformentioned garbage until I kill and restart lightDM.

I had it hard crash on DX12 last night; there was nothing but a still image and garbage on the screen. I had to drop into a shell (control-alt-F* for those who don't know) and restart my display manager.

My .Xsession-errors file was no help in figuring out what the problem was, dmesg was pointless. I'm still scratching my head.:unsure:

Quoting: buckysrevengeI think them finally fixing issues with Nvidia GPUs w/gamemode (new BPM) is a nice step towards getting SteamOS 3.x out as a generic ISO. I'd love to get it set up on my old Steam Machine (currently running Manjaro stable and new BPM), the ease of Valve's updates on the Steam Deck translated to a dedicated HTPC would be nice to have again.
what is bananas per monkey and how does it help? I can't find anything about BPM
Well obviously if there are more bananas per monkey they are happier and so their random typing will generate Shakespeare's complete works faster.
Or considering the way "modern" computing is going, they'll write a machine-learning AI to do it for them while powering a robot that feeds them bananas!

Lord almighty, I can't stand cloud-powered/blockchain/machine-learning/social experiment/must have every appliance in the house connected to teh interwebs nonsense!

Well met! Wesley brothers (Plus their mother: people forget that Susanna was instrumental in John and Charles' formative years. Her work reads pretty well too.) fan club unite! (Yes, that pun was terrible.)
Gotta admit I don't really understand how Method acting could become an actual religion.
Hey, I did a bit of that in 11th-grade Drama, too! Pulled off a decent score in a local one-act competition.

Quoting: NezchanWell, it *is* based on faith rather than facts...
Hey, at least we're not the ones who think the ancestors of Native Americans built submarines. Or that a certain "Happyology" alien triggered mass extinction via hydrogen bombs!

Most of us aren't Young/Flat-Earther conspiracists. Never would I abandon scientific fact.

I think every belief requires a leap-of-faith.

After all, we're here because we believe in our freedom to use our computers instead of being used by them, and it required a decent sized leap to install Linux for the first time, myself.

I realize that trying to prove to someone over the internet that one belief is better or worse than any other is an exercise in futility. Not that it stops the Lowest-Common-Denominator from trying. That's why I hate the state of modern politics. Civil discussion is much preferable to conflict.
