Most of us aren't Young/Flat-Earther conspiracists. Never would I abandon scientific fact.
I think every belief requires a leap-of-faith.
After all, we're here because we believe in our freedom to use our computers instead of being used by them, and it required a decent sized leap to install Linux for the first time, myself.
I realize that trying to prove to someone over the internet that one belief is better or worse than any other is an exercise in futility. Not that it stops the Lowest-Common-Denominator from trying. That's why I hate the state of modern politics. Civil discussion is much preferable to conflict.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyHey, I did a bit of that in 11th-grade Drama, too! Pulled off a decent score in a local one-act competition.Quoting: redneckdrowGotta admit I don't really understand how Method acting could become an actual religion. :tongue:Quoting: denyasisPS, nice to see a fellow Methodist!Well met! Wesley brothers (Plus their mother: people forget that Susanna was instrumental in John and Charles' formative years. Her work reads pretty well too.) fan club unite! (Yes, that pun was terrible.)
Quoting: NezchanWell, it *is* based on faith rather than facts...Hey, at least we're not the ones who think the ancestors of Native Americans built submarines. Or that a certain "Happyology" alien triggered mass extinction via hydrogen bombs!

Also, I'm concerned that the CPU overhead in WINE/Proton would lead to early FPS death (single-digit framerates, for the uninitiated). 'Course, you usually have to play without FUN for quite a while to hit that point, so I might try Proton.
I've been waiting so long, since the initial announcement, that I have no recourse but to instabuy!
I feel the same way about Avatar: The Way of the Water tickets... my poor wallet!

As a Methodist, I support any method that brings people closer to the Lord and willing to hear the good news!
But this guy's a shyster.
And as for Software: there's Xiphos, GnomeSWORD, BibleTime, a half-dozen other Linux-compatible clients, and about a thousand Android Apps. Each of them supports many different translations, and a few support braille, screen readers, and text-to-speech. So his argument that he couldn't find other software is bogus.
If he really wanted to spread The Good News, he wouldn't be charging money for it. Same reason I don't like the NIV, they charge money for it, and claim copyright on their translation of The Word; no one has the right to do that.

Quoting: wvstolzingThe reddit thread is interesting. The guy who made this claims he couldn't find an audiobook, or an accessible version for visually impaired people ... which is pretty implausible by itself; but then he goes on to tell how that gave him the impetus to prepare 'translations of the text into as many languages as he could', & hire voice actors in various languages to record his (?) translations, and so on.I have to agree with you that the fella's motives are suspect. I mean, there are numerous public domain versions of the Bible including the OEB on Github. [External Link]. (Not yet complete, but the New Testament is finished.)
Doesn't sound terribly serious (or even sane) to me.
I mean, pro-level bible software costs a ton (because it comes with pretty amazing interlinked text, Greek & Hebrew translations, historical commentaries, and so on), but basic e-book/audiobook type releases are a dime a dozen.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyYou might find this funny... [External Link]Quoting: slaapliedjeRandom conversation yesterday started me on the path of 'why is it called the Amazon anyway, did the conquistadors find a bunch of warrior women in the Jungle when they first traveled there?' Still don't know the answer...The conquistadors saw it and said "What an Amazin' river!"

The nestboxes command also saves my sanity by preventing dwarves from eating eggs in them! Without it, you have to manually forbid and unforbid 'em, and that's the ultimate pain to keep up a decent hatching industry.
I prefer Dwarf Therapist to dfhack's labormanager though.
edit: which reminds me, If we pay the $20 do you think we could get the new tileset as a graphics pack for the original in the meantime? I'll probably stick to spacefox myself otherwise.

Quoting: PhiladelphusIt's happening! :woot:Well, you can always use TWBT via dfhack. I use McArcady's [External Link] LinuxDwarfPack just so I don't have to fool with managing dfhack et al. myself. In fact, I find some functions of dfhack vital to my enjoyment of the game: namely exportlegends, workflow (a simpler manager interface), and the fairly recent embark-assistant (Much better than the default find embark!). I really hope that the paid version is still compatible.
Maybe I can actually make the switch from ASCII to graphics with this release, now that it no longer involves simultaneously mangling text.

And I've got my 100% back (for the third time, they kept adding achievements). First Steam game I've ever done that with. Anyone need pointers? I'd be glad to help (I'll try to avoid spoilers if you don't want them.)!

Instabought (tip: There's even a small sale on Fanatical!)... but I'm waiting to play it until EDB Prepare Carefully gets updated to play it. Yes I know about Character Editor, but it feels a little more cheaty and lacks a few features from EDBPC that I use.

I hope they get the native version sorted out soon. It runs much faster during the final few minutes (around 27:00 to 30:00) than the game normally does in proton.
