My game of the year 2022 is the Steam Deck

I'm also picking Brotato as my GOTY. I've played over 30h of it on Steam Deck and I still have so many builds to try out, I come back to it once in a while for a couple hours of cozy gaming.

Microsoft upgraded Xbox Cloud Gaming for Linux and ChromeOS (so Steam Deck too!)

Nice! I've been testing Xbox Cloud Gaming on Steam Deck with Edge, following Microsoft's instructions: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/xbox-cloud-gaming-in-microsoft-edge-with-steam-deck-43dd011b-0ce8-4810-8302-965be6d53296
Good to know it works with Chrome too, I suspected the same, but well I guess it's an opportunity to test Edge ;)

It's working pretty well! Had some fun testing a few AAA games without having to install them first (Forza Horizon 5, Ghost Recon), and I'm switching between an actual Xbox Series X and the Steam Deck to continue my Assassin's Creed Odyssey game, based on where I feel like playing :)

Oh yeah! I've been waiting for that one :D

The itch.io app works on a Steam Deck

Quoting: dosAll you need to run itch.io app in Gaming Mode is adding
LD_PRELOAD= %command%
to Launch Options.

Just tested, that works like a charm! Thanks a lot.

Do you know what's triggering the issue when not clearing `LD_PRELOAD`?

More teasers for a big Valheim update have arrived

I enjoyed Valheim back when it was released, but after 20 hours I somewhat bounced off of it.

All these updates and Steam Deck changes make me want to come back to it, also starting a new world. I'm hoping that the UI and controls will have improved significantly as they were too tedious last time I played, and a big part of why I eventually got bored.

Shattered Pixel Dungeon arrives on Steam eight years later

I played this a lot on Android a few years back, it's one of the best open source games available on F-droid :)

Might be worth mentioning in the article BTW, it's a fully open source game: https://github.com/00-Evan/shattered-pixel-dungeon (and originally a fork of Pixel Dungeon, also open source: https://github.com/watabou/pixel-dungeon).

Space Invaders gets reinvented with Beat Invaders and it's slick

That game also completely took me by surprise and hooked me. I was early enough to snatch the first spot on the global leaderboards for a few hours, two days later I'm buried deep :P

The itch.io app works on a Steam Deck

Quoting: popsulfrHi Liam, could you also maybe test GameHub on the Steam Deck through gamescope to see how it behaves ? It has itch.io, gog, Humble Bundle, emulation integration and there's a cool feature with an "Add to Steam" button that automatically adds non-steam games into the client with cover picture and all. Pretty cool stuff.

That sounds pretty interesting! I was indeed looking for an alternative client to access my itch.io games as I'd like something that works while in Steam UI mode.

I gave it a try, and currently GameHub seems a bit too rough, at least when it comes to its packaging options. Both the AppImage and the Flatpak are labelled as unstable, and indeed I tried the flatpak on Steam Deck and it:
- Broke Plasma Discover
- Doesn't seem to support Steam or Itch

And the AppImage depends on a specific version of the gio-2.0 library from Ubuntu Bionic, doesn't work on my Mageia desktop, and probably won't on the Steam Deck either.

Feral Interactive have no plans to update their Linux ports for Steam Deck
21 February 2022 at 5:39 pm UTC Likes: 5

Quoting: GuestKind of not sure what people are expecting Feral to update? The whole point of the Steam Deck is that it doesn't need games to be built specifically for it. Nobody is expecting all their Windows titles to be updated to target this one particular hardware device, so not sure why Feral is being singled out here.

Well, one simple thing is the fact that Feral games are configured to show you a warning that you're running them on an unsupported distro when you are not running Ubuntu. It's fine if you're a tinkerer like us running a non-Ubuntu distro, you're used to that - but it's not fine on a consumer device sold as a user-friendly console.

So updating for Steam Deck could be as little as *testing* on Steam Deck and adding Steam OS 3.0 as official supported, so this egregious warning doesn't show up.

If they choose not to do this, it basically means that they don't recommend using their Linux ports on Steam Deck, and indeed would prefer that Valve sets the default configuration to use Proton.

An interview with James Spanos of Wormwood Studios

Thanks for the really nice interview! And thanks James for your work on all those titles, I'm ecstatic to see all Wadget Eye Games fully supported on Linux, and it's a good incentive to jump into the last few titles I haven't played yet :)
